R.A.D: Robot Alchemic Drive Review (PS2)

Post by Satoshi_Matrix »

So here is my next review, a PS2 game I was really hoping to find before I broke down and just bought it on ebay.

Robot Alchemic Drive.

Great review! Glad you finally got this game.

Your wrap up statement summed the game up well, a hidden gem needing a sequel!
Satoshi_Matrix wrote:R.A.D is an unusual game, and some would even say it’s a rather flawed game. My perspective is that this is one of the best PS2 games that somehow got a localization, and the more people that know about it the better. If you can find it, give it a shot. You’ll walk away smiling. I can only hope a sequel come out someday.

So did you thought it was worth it from ebay?

I am interested by the concept of the gameplay, but I myself wouldn't buy it.

Thanks for sharing your review!

This game is great. I was looking for it for years and I finally find a mint copy at Gamestop last year for like $15.00. Worth every penny and great review man. I think this was Enix's last local game before merging with Square.

I finally broke down and bought it on ebay, even through I didn't want to. The only affordable copy I could find came without a manual, which sucks. How people manage to lose manuals for games that have sealable cases is beyond me. Sure, I can understand cart-only games or even PS1 games, but really...you have to go to some length to remove the manual from PS2 games.

Is the manual that helpful? I'd imagine not, that it's probably rather thin and black and white, but damnit, I want a manual :x

I did not like R.A.D at all which was disappointing. I played a game called Remote Control Dandy which I felt was just better quality. It has a more tezuka-ish visual aesthetic to it, but the production quality was better. The voice acting in R.A.D was god awful and something about it made me really nauseous for extended periods of time. If you liked R.A.D that much, I think you should definitely look for Remote Control Dandy (it's only in japanese, but I still played the hell out of it)

Cool. I'll have to check that out. RAD is very specific and appeals to a very specific audience. It's not surprising that I love it while you hate it. It's hard to be in between.

Right here! Yeah, this game rocks. I love the remote control play style.
