I think it's because slowslow has a subconscious fear of the occult and associates the number 5 with pentagrams.

Naw, I can tell his fear of magick is more personified in the number 11, and consequently the letter K.AppleQueso wrote:I think it's because slowslow has a subconscious fear of the occult and associates the number 5 with pentagrams.

I'd be curious as to what your real life associates do that puts you into contact with that kind of thing. Hell, when I took MVC and DiffEq complex exponents never really came up, aside from the aforemented e^pi*i = -1. It's one of those things that just confuses your students when they're trying to learn the general principles of the two disciplines and it defies all the existing rules they've learned.Limewater wrote:Ha. No problem. I'm just part of the relatively small portion of society who actually see this stuff on a regular basis. Otherwise, I'd have never made the joke in the first place. Come to think of it, I probably shouldn't have made the joke here.MrPopo wrote:Ah hah, did not know that the power rule doesn't apply with complex exponents. I knew e^i*pi as random math trivia and I've seen the Euler's formula proof of how it turns into 1. Looking it again I see how the power rule chokes and dies. You'll have to forgive my gaff; it's been several years since calculus.
I think I just realized that my real-life associates are nerdier than my online associates. I don't know what to make of that.

You haven't been paying attention. It's more like:
e^pi*i = -1
Jokes about you^Stupid Puns*Discussion of Rant = Dumb Rant
I may be off a few decimals though.

I think there is something to learn from this though, rating systems of 5 are nothing to complain aboutAppleQueso wrote:this is your fault you know look what you've done

Re: Don't ever rate anything out of 5!!!!!!!!!!
Rating things out of 5 is seriously dumb, I mean, it doesn't give a good answer without using decimals, and then there's no reason not to use 10.
Re: Don't ever rate anything out of 5!!!!!!!!!!
Rating systems of 10 are worse than rating systems of 5. All that ever gets used is 6-10, with everything below that being a failure. Do I really care if a game got a 1/10 instead of a 5/10? No, because I wouldn't touch it either way (If I put a lot of stock into the review)slowslow325 wrote:Rating things out of 5 is seriously dumb, I mean, it doesn't give a good answer without using decimals, and then there's no reason not to use 10.
And again, ratings are mostly useless anyway. A 3/5 for me might be a 5/5 for you if you'd read the actual review and form your own opinion based on what was written about the game. A dealbreaker for you is might be what makes the game a must-have for me.

Back on the subject of ratings, I'll also say that I think that having ten distinct rating levels (or eleven, if you allow ratings of zero) is really pushing the limit on granularity of how well we can really evaluate these things. And The7K is right. For most reviewers who use a ten point scale, only the top half ends up being used.
