Bluetooth Gamepads -- Any Recommendations?

Post by racketboy »

Are there any really good Bluetooth gamepads out there?
The recent thread on Android gaming (and emulation) got me thinking....

Not that I want to stop the conversation there, but would a PS3 controller work with an Android phone?

Ideally, for stuff like playing on your phone, a more portable controller would be ideal.

There has already been some progress on getting a Dualshock 3 to pair successfully with an Android phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718941 So it looks like it isn't too far off. Also, I remember that Bacteria modded a generic bluetooth controller to fit it into an SNES gamepad, and it worked with Android. The most well-known Android-compatible bluetooth controller is probably the ZeeMote: http://www.zeemote.com/

Not to hijack the thread, but I've been wanting to use my dual shock 3 on my laptop (which has bluetooth built in) for some time and have had no luck finding drivers. Does anyone know of any links to where I can get drivers.

Again, sorry Racket for thread hijacking.

It would be nice if someone made some kind of mini game pad.

I believe that MotioninJoy is the best of what's around, unless someone else has made a go of it.

Yeah, I've seen his custom stuff, but I'm not about to make one myself :)
And that Z-pad doesn't look like it's very friendly for emulation, is it?

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm looking for a bluetooth gamepad for my laptop and my media center PC.

Will the 360 controller work with my bluetooth receiver? I know there's a USB dongle available for PC, but I'm not too keen on it. I'd rather just use the bluetooth signal built into my laptop if possible.

What about the wavebird? Can I use that with bluetooth?

The only mainstream console controllers that I'm aware of that run on bluetooth are the ps3 and wii controllers. As far as making them work on a pc, I know there have been drivers made by hackers but I don't know how easy they are to configure.

Damn. I don't really like either of those controllers.

If I get the wiimote connected, can I then use a classic controller?

Wiimotes work perfectly on android phones (aside from those running Sense UI as HTC decided in their infinite wisdom to use a super old bluetooth stack. Rage. Also, Samsung Touchwiz doesn't do it either I believe, but I'm not sure on that one). Classic controllers should be supported as well, though it might not be as portable, you can get the classic controller pro and have effectively a PSX controller to use. Lastly, there's a datel version of the classic controller that doesn't even connect to a wiimote, it connects directly to an android device over bluetooth. I haven't personally tried it yet, but I've heard great things about it.

And on a related note, if you have an android tablet with USB ports and Honeycomb 3.1+ it'll support standard USB gamepads, including PS3 controllers being directly plugged in. Goddamn I love android!
