I hate the motion controlls too, but metroid other m isn't that bad. It isn't the conduit or madworld. All the motion controls that game has is when you point at the screen to use your missile, and back to nes style for everything else. Isn't that bad.Snickerd00dle wrote:In all honesty, I hate the wii mote and motion controls, so this is one I will probably just watch be played

I agree, but Metroid Prime 3 is still the best use of the Wii controller to date (outside of light gun games, anyway). So there's that.Snickerd00dle wrote:My roomate is playing it right now, I didn't know they still made gamecube games

I picked it up but might not have time to play until tomorrow. Screens look interesting, but the cover art is shit.

Re: metroid other m
Did you guys get those little cards with the Metroid Images? The worst pre-order bonus ever, its a bunch of little cards that have screen shots on them, little collectible jpegs, awful!nickfil wrote:oh god i know. And to comment on the controls, I guess I will take a look at it first hand before I go making any more comments, I may just find myself surprised

Here are the images if anyone doesn't know what snicker is talking about.Snickerd00dle wrote:Did you guys get those little cards with the Metroid Images? and yeah- total waste. Nintendo hasn't really been very good at over the top pre-order bonuses. Or online support. Maybe it is just a japanese thing? Anyway- the cards are crap and not worth it.
Simply, hold the controler one way to make samus do this thing, hold it another way to make her do something completely different. That is all the motion control. It can barely be called motion control.Snickerd00dle wrote:And to comment on the controls, I guess I will take a look at it first hand before I go making any more comments, I may just find myself surprised
I'm about halfway through now i guess. Maybe more. It is kinda hard to tell because there isn't really a story for the first couple hours of gameplay. But now there is? Anyway- the more i play it the more and more i just don't really like it.

4.5 hours in, and so far I'm liking it a lot. The various extra touches in the combat are nice. The boss you fight after you get the Varia has that nifty over-the-top action that you don't usually see in a Metroid game. And I'm totally surprised that they put the Shinespark in (and just how well they pulled it off). So far my only complaints are that sometimes the first person auto target likes to focus on the guy I didn't freeze for my missiles and that one bastardly jump section after getting the wave beam where I realized at the very end that I was trying to do it the hard and stupid way, instead of the easy way.
Also, at this point the story has picked up. I have some theories, especially as to events that might lead in to Fusion. I'm certainly interested to see how the current plot develops. It's definitely not the best Metroid out there, but it's a very solid game. And I'm already mentally making a list of "places to go after you get Super Missiles/Power Bombs".

Re: metroid other m
About 45min in and I like it but still not used to the controls.
I replayed all of the Metroid games this month, and beat Super for the first time, to prepare for this game so I am digging the story since I'm in a Metroid mode right now.
I have never played a Ninja Gaiden game since the NES so the 3rd person fighting is still challenging to me.
I don't mind the cut scenes, I like the story, but I just cant seem to jump on enemy's heads. I cant get the timing and "spacing" down yet.

Man, can't believe so many of y'all are complaining about the controls. I got used to them so quick I didn't even feel like there was a learning curve.
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Re: metroid other m
That doesn't get easier. Part of the problem is that you are never in control of the camera, so it is difficult for the player to interpret the depth of the virtual room. Most of the time i just jump around like a madman until it works out for me.SpaceBooger wrote: I like the story, but I just cant seem to jump on enemy's heads. agreed. Thought it was pretty strait forward.D.D.D. wrote:Man, can't believe so many of y'all are complaining about the controls. I got used to them so quick I didn't even feel like there was a learning curve.
