Behold! The Mighty PS1 Longbox Collection - COMPLETE!

Awesome, congratz on finally finishing that beast.
Re: Behold! The Mighty PS1 Longbox Collection - COMPLETE!
Congrats, it's pretty cool to see all those together.
It seems you'd do well with a 3DO or Jaguar collection as well. A lot of the games you mentioned are ports, I think most of which were superior on the original systems (the 3DO and Neo Geo ones stick out anyway). Not that you care! Just caught my eye.
I might get a copy of NBA Jams: TE on PlayStation just to finally resolve the issue of the best port, Jaguar vs. the CD ports. It's usually an issue of sound versus loading times, so I'd be curious to see how the graphics compare on top of the other pros and cons. If you have a complete 32X collection, you must have at least two versions of the game already.

In the Hunt
Tiny Phalanx (hidden game in Zero Divide)
Street Fighter Alpha
Darkstalkers
Battle Arena Toshinden 1 and 2 (these were some of the first games I had for the PS1 in the late 90s, so they are big nostalgia titles for me)
Twisted Metal
Wipeout
Ridge Racer
The Need for Speed
Loaded
NBA Jam TE (the best version in terms of graphics, I believe)
Philosoma (this was shit, though)
Those are the ones that I've already played a fair amount since I've acquired them. I've even beat a few.
There are others that I very much want to dive into in the near future:
Return Fire
Starblade Alpha
Viewpoint
Road Rash
Off World Interceptor Extreme
Magic Carpet
Jumping Flash
...and probably another 5-10 that I am quite curious about and think I'd enjoy.
That said, your point is taken that there are some stinkers. I've spent some time with a few that I thought I might find interesting based on the IP (e.g. Street Fighter the Movie and Alien Trilogy) and have been burned. Notably, some of the longbox games have very cheesy FMV and rudimentary polygon work. Luckily, the majority of those games fall into the "so bad it's good" category and are worth a few laughs, if nothing else. In any case, I think I've discovered some great titles that I wouldn't have picked up otherwise by doing this!![]()
As to why I collected the full 32X library and the PS1 longbox sets - this era holds a special appeal to me. I think that the transition from 2D to 3D, the industry's move from publishing and promoting games as "for kids" to "for adults," and the risks taken with some titles in the era are all very interesting from a historical perspective, even if the gameplay sometimes suffers.

I've contemplated trying for a complete 32X collection. But A. I hate those cardboard boxes. And B. I hate having crappy games. I recently picked up Garfield caught in the act and Cool Spot for genesis at good will. . . and they're not very good and it angers me.

You were expecting a Garfield game to be good?

Thats awesome man. I can't believe there are 101 long box games. I never really remember seeing them much back in the day. I do remember having a copy of Kings Field longbox that I had to return twice because the disc came out of its holder and scratched the crap out of it.
On a side note I just found 3D Lemmings long box for 2 bucks on vacation, wooo!

NICE!!
Ridge Racer, Wipeout, Jumping Flash, Rayman and Loaded are great. I'd love to have Raiden Project.
I like these kinds of collecting goals. They're fun, but manageable - unlike trying to collect an entire console's library. I have been trying to collect CIB NES black box games for a long time, but they are so over priced online and I don't get to collector's shows. I don't know where I would get them at a realistic price at this point.

Sweetness. That's definitely the first time I've seen a complete PS1 LB collection.

Hmm, I remembered liking Cool Spot when I was a kid.

A Discworld game?
Is it every bit as awesome as it sounds?
