I remember seeing Akira in a Theatre somewhere in the Netherlands.
Japanese language with English subs.
I recommend it.
Love the movie although it gets kind of ridiculous at the end.

If you haven't seen it, the Blu-Ray of Akira is absolutely amazing. You haven't seen it properly if you haven't seen it remastered in 1080p and lossless 5.1. My 2 cents.

The real question is:

Is the NEWEST one, an original third English dub, available on anything other than UMD?
Wait.... they have a new THIRD english dub? and it is only available on the PSP UMD version???

Of course you're all doing it wrong by watching the dub anyway. :P

Hardly, the movie is based on a manga and they had to trim a lot of the story in order to make a coherent movie. To do justice to the plot they should have made a mini-series like Bubblegum Crisis, albeit with higher production values, but looking back the Akira Committee would have probably run out of funds before finishing the story proper. There's absolutely nothing ridiculous about the ending.

I'm an obnoxious subtitles junkie, but I admit that Akira's Streamline dub was fantastic for its time.

I have the subbed tape myself and I'm a bit of a sub snob too, but I was just poking fun. :)

Love the movie although it gets kind of ridiculous at the end.[/quote]

Speaking of trippy endings, which trippy ending stands out more?
  • The ending to Akira
The ending to End of Evangelion
The ending of 2001: A Space Oddysey
