I still wanna see this at some point, but it's one of those movies I gotta see with my father. We always see films like this together, it just wouldn't be right without him.

I watched SPvTW again, this time with a rather large group of friends. Strangely, we ended up getting into one of the showings that had subtitles, so I actually managed to catch more than the first time.

I still enjoyed the movie, but now that I've actually read the first volume of the comic (as well as all the few previews on the official website - I'm broke! I'd buy the rest if I could!), I noticed some things didn't stack up. Hell, some things that I haven't even had a chance to read yet don't stack up either.

A) Ramona. I like her, and I thought MEW did a mostly good job - however, she just didn't seem right. Mainly, I don't ever remember her joking around, having a good laugh, etc. Ya know, like this:

She's almost too serious in the movie. You can definitely feel that she's still a very warm and 'cool' person, but she just didn't seem as fun as she should have been.

B) Why did Ramona run off after the fight with Lucas Lee, and then not call or anything afterward? Granted, I haven't read this far in the comic, but it just didn't seem right.

C) What the hell happened after the fight with Todd Ingram? Beforehand, everyone is getting along swimmingly (well, aside from Knives) - then, suddenly, everyone is pissed off at each other. Why? It just didn't make any sense to me.

D) The whole last 1/3 of the movie was kinda all over the damn place. It's also pretty damn obvious that they meant to end the movie one way, then at the very last second realized that ending the movie that way would have made the whole movie pointless (not to mention completely destroy the moral of the story), so they changed it at the very last second.

This said, I'll definitely see it again if I have a chance, and I'll definitely be getting the disc when it hits. It's still the most fun I've had in theaters since Toy Story 3.

They had a few interviews with the Bryan Lee O'Malley and Edgar Wright where they talked about intentionally dumbing down some of the content to get by censors and S&P (standards and practices) people along with the PG-13 rating. It's the nature of the beast we call Hollywood I suppose, but it's not like it's a bad movie because of it.

Youth in Revolt: Another obnoxiously "indie" film featuring Michael Cera. It gets points for having Steve Buscemi in it, but loses pretty much all of them for just not being very good. My wife hated it more than I did. It has pretty good ratings on IMDB, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It did have a couple of genuinely funny moments, both of which happen to be the two drug-related scenes in the film. None of the characters were really likeable. I have to imagine that this film has the appeal of Napoleon Dynamite or something-- normal people get to watch a bunch of freaks act like freaks and laugh at them. Yay!

It seems I don't share this board's enthusiasm for The Expendables. I'm a big fan of many 80s action movies but this homage just didn't work for me.

Jet Li On a more serious note, I've come to expect a bit of intelligence to go hand in hand with my average action movie, which is why I'm more forgiving toward movies of a certain era (in this case 80s actioners). Rambo IV as a proper sequel was good, The Expendables felt simply average even in the context of the genre it's paying homage to.

Yeah, it's not big on good story, characterization, dialogue etc. though I thought it did have a few funny moments and a few good lines and the action scenes satisfied the action junkie in me. I think the concept is what makes the movie appealling. Seeing all those action icons together is like some sort of big crossover movie. The dialogue in the scene with Bruce Willis,Sly and Arnold is some of the best in the movie I think as it sort of breaks the fourth wall and winks at the audience

I like Jet Li personally, but I think he was sort of wasted in this movie. Seeing him get beaten TWICE kind of ticked me off. I'm a fan of asian martial arts movies where people like Jet Li get to really shine. Donnie Yen would have kicked ass in a movie like this, but he's not known to anyone who isn't big on asian action flicks so there's no place for him or even someone as badass as Tony Jaa in a movie like this unfortunately
