I love this example, and as of yet, I still haven't played a PS2 game with that amount of raw texture on screen. But I'd say I've played a lot of PS2 games that had smoother models, better special effects, and impressive post-processing effects that we never saw the DC put out. But it did take developers 4-5 years to learn how to produce these on PS2.The Apprentice wrote:I bet if you really tweaked it, you could get halo 1 running on Dreamcast, even. Of course using an alien controller would be murder, and this goes for the PS2 controller as well.
Woah, I'm way off topic.
Try Shenmue 2 on PS2. It's impossible because lower ammount of video ram than the Dreamcast. Not even Shenmue 1 would run.
Impressive XBOX games that are impossible to replica on PS2
I have a dreamcast a ps2 and a xbox. The dreamcast is good, overrated and the graphics on it are defintally not better than the ps2, i believed it too until i actually played the ps2. Most of the games on dreamcast graphics are alright, n64 quality, blocky but prettier. There are 5 or 6 games that have excellent graphics that are as good or better than the ps2. But overall ps2 has much better graphics than the dreamcast. and god of war 2 sucked. overrated.

It is very hard to make a list like this - the Xbox was released a year after the PS2 so of course the hardware is going to be a bit better. I'd go out on a limb and say the PS2 could run any Xbox game perhaps with minor changes - but of course the game would have to be programmed and tweaked to run on the Playstation 2 hardware.
Heck - they pulled off Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 on the originally Xbox. Probably the two most resource demanding PC games when released.

My understanding is the PS2 has 4MB of dedicated video memory - but can also access some of the 32MB of main memory? Anyone know about this?Try Shenmue 2 on PS2. It's impossible because lower ammount of video ram than the Dreamcast. Not even Shenmue 1 would run.

i dont know people, but although you could re-program a halo to run on a ps2, i just dont think it would look as good.
as with this running halo on a dreamcast BS, no way, its like saying if coders have enough time they can run gears of war on a regular xbox and have it look as nice.
still, there is no game out there that looks as crisp and amazing (on that generation) as Dead or Alive Ultimate, Tecmo are sick bastards, and i really dont believe you could pull it off as nice looking on a playstation 2.
common people, cant we list more games on this thread? i see your points but xbox is in fact the most powerful system.
with the same amount of time you waste trying to make a xbox game look as good on a playstation 2, you can make a xbox game look even better.

Can't say that I agree with this. There are a lot of gorgeous games on the Dreamcast. Some people talk about the DC like it's a generation apart from the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube. In reality, the DC is effectively a "last gen" system. It just didn't last very long unfortunately. What we're looking at now with the PS 3, the Wii and the Xbox 360 is really the first generation of consoles to not include Sega, which is a thought that makes me want to cry.mason wrote:I have a dreamcast a ps2 and a xbox. One of the reasons you are now seeing so many good-looking games on the PS2 is that developers have had almost eight years to get to know the hardware and what it can do. I'm sure we would have seen some Dreamcast games that would have been incredible if it was given more of a chance.Gamerforlife wrote:Can't say that I agree with this. A good example of this is "Under Defeat" for dreamcast, that game looks freaking sick and it was released in 2006 by small time developers.Gamerforlife wrote:Can't say that I agree with this. Dreamcast simply didnt have enough of a change, but the unfortunate thing is that the discs only handled a 1GB of data, which may have set things back for its true potential.
Well, who knows, mabye they could have dont a DVD add on!
