So, after months waiting for one I finally got a Dreamcast for 16 euro, box included. Of course, I inmeditadly pluged it and tried to play ChuChu Rocket to no avail.
Guess, it doesn't like that game. I tried all the games I have including Fighting Vipers 2 fresh out of the box and the only one who runs is Daytona USA 2001. It doesn't even recognize the DreamKey disc that comes with ChuChu Rocket!
Should I return it? The discs seem all to be in good shape, in fact Daytona is the one in worse shape.
It seems that the discs don't even get to speed and the console makes noises for no reason.

I would take it back, I don't see any reason trying to fix it if you have that option.

Try just cleaning the laser first.
1) Dip a fresh Q-Tip in rubbing alcohol.
2) Dab the Q-Tip off on a rag so it's moist and NOT dripping.
3) Gently scrub laser, wait a minute for the alcohol to dry and proceed to try your discs.

I would also recommend to try cleaning the laser which usually will fix these issuesMod_Man_Extreme wrote:Try just cleaning the laser first.

Re: Bought Dreamcast: Only plays Daytona
This may seem like a stupid question, but are you sure all the games are the same region as the console?

Agree, clean laser and discs. Discs are originals?Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Try just cleaning the laser first.

Door switch? Press firmly when closing.

Dreamcasts are loud, a noisy Dreamcast is not unusual. Most likely games are either damaged or the wrong region. Look at the label side of the discs. The mirror side can be scratched all to hell and still work, but damage on the label side can ruin it.and the console makes noises for no reason.

When I got the DC at launch, I thought it was defective cuz I was so loud.Bikeage wrote:Dreamcasts are loud, a noisy Dreamcast is not unusual. I've found the DC to be even more sensitive to scratches than any other console. One tiny scratch and the game is gone.Bikeage wrote:Most likely games are either damaged or the wrong region. Can you hear the laser slide back and forth on the rail? I had one stop ontime and after lubing it and sliding it back and forth manually a few times it fixed itself .
