How Did You Become a Sega or Nintendo Fanboy?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

How Did You Become a Sega or Nintendo Fanboy?

Post by racketboy »

Admit it... when you were younger, you were either a Sega or a Nintendo fanboy (or maybe you were a NEC geek or Neo-Geo snob) ;)

How did you become what you were?

Nintendo, I had a NES growing up, as well as most of my friends and cousins, I really wanted a genesis but never got one until my twenties, Nintendo lost me on the N64, it never interested me so I got a Playstation. After that it was SEGA because of the DC, mostly because it was the only console with a SF3 port and other capcom fighters.

I was never a fanboy. I've got nothing to admit. I owned a Genesis during the entire war, but I loved playing SNES at the many friends' houses I had access to. Megaman X, Mario World, F-Zero, TMNT4, Mario RPG. So many good times. I never once gave them any trouble because I had great times on NES, so I knew the same experiences must have carried over.

Right now I'm totally a Sega fanboy, mainly because the Saturn was my first and the Dreamcast is my favourite, but back in the day I was too young to really be a fanboy. I just wanted to play the games and have fun, not take part in stupid discussions. Besides that, all my friends had Sega consoles (Master System, Megadrive) so there was no Nintendo fanboy to argue with.

Hmmm, I don't think I was ever really a Nintendo or Sega fanboy. I had an S-NES and a Genesis. However, I did get the Genesis first and I guess you could say that I did slightly favor Sega over Nintendo, but I was always open to playing great games on any system.

However, as I got older I started liking Sega more than Nintendo. Again, not to the point of fanboyism, but I always liked how Sega had an edginess to them and a sense of what was modern and cool. You could see it in their games, while Nintendo was always conservative and too family friendly. Always falling back on their same big franchises, while Sega seemed to be always brimming with new and exciting ideas. I always felt like all Nintendo cared about was their image and making money while Sega just cared about giving gamers what they want and pushing the industry forward.

So, if push came to shove, I'd say I'm more a Sega person than a Nintendo person. And the Saturn and Dreamcast may be the best systems ever, but I happily own a bunch of Nintendo systems too and would like to get a Wii at some point.

I was really a Nintendo guy (i owned a NES back in the day, mabye 87) untill i bought my Dreamcast back in '03, the rest is history, and i had to go back the the saturn which i never had (2 years ago) and genesis/seg cd/32x which i never had (also 2 years ago)

Sega is simply the best, i guess Nintendo really converted to a kiddie system, and im not into kiddie games, i love arcade games.

The very first memory that I have of gaming is Double dragon on my mates SMS1 ( I know it was a whore that got ported to everything But I played it on a SMS) and my first ever console was a mega-drive 2 with a copy of SOR as my first ever game ( hence the reason I fucking love brawlers) so I was always leaning toward Sega , but pretty much every friend I had owned Nintendo and I loved playing those too, so I never really became a "fanboy".

It used to bother me when I picked up a copy of a sega mag only to see a drawing done some kid who took it a little too seriously, usually something like sonic impaling Mario on his quills or something along those lines. The very same thing could be found in the pages of the nintendo mags with Mario roasting sonic with his fireball or jumping on sonics head making ridiculous amounts of blood spray across the page. ( although as I reminisce now about it I kind of chuckle a little )

I do still have a huge soft spot for Sega and always will. Hell the console of mine that gets the heaviest use is still my DC and I don't see that changing in a hurry. Every time I turn on a sega console and see the sega logo I still get butterfly's after all these years. My nes and snes give me similar feelings but nothing really compares.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I started off with the NES and two games. One was a rare 3 in 1 with Super Mario Bros, Tetris and Nintendo World Cup. With such a compilation its not hard to guess how my life has turned out. ^_^

My brother and I fell in love with Mario right away and continued to snap up more games for the NES. From there it was a natural progression to the SNES. Throughout this time I spent most weekends playing the Megadrive at my cousins place. Out of the 3 families on my Dad's side they all had Megadrives, so every where I went there was a Megadrive. I enjoyed games like Sonic, Wonder Boy and the Disney games.

Although I played both systems I was more dedicated to Nintendo and the SNES as it was the better system and everyone knows it. But I was not biased towards Sega in anyway. Later on almost everyone in my family had a Dreamcast so I also enjoyed that to.
