The MANLIEST Super Nintendo games, For great glory!
Re: The MANLIEST Super Nintendo games, For great glory!
Can you clarify what you mean by a "cheap arcade port?"

I'm going to go with Stargate and Robocop vs. the Terminator for those which haven't been said.

Well for example, the Fatal Fury series, which I just decided I'm not going to add :/Limewater wrote:Can you clarify what you mean by a "cheap arcade port?"
The audio is pretty bad, it sounds like it's being played through an empty folgers coffee can and for some reason "Duck King" is white, and he doesn't even have his little duck sidekick! I feel like this series should be left out, at least until the Manliest Neo Geo games come around
Arcade games that are strait ports that don't fair well or feel rushed I think should be left out as opposed to the ones that are actually adapted to make an excellent SNES ecperience.
Does anyone feel that Sparkster (Of the Rocket Knight series) is a manly game? You're a Rocket Knight, which is pretty bad ass, and almost every enemy explodes in a Gunstar heroes sort of way. I'm on the edge here because I like including awesome obcure games but I don't want them to be too cartoony.
Never played Slam masters, will check it out!
[EDIT] Also, Air Strike, The first game in the list is one I played as a kid and thought was awesome. Just played it a while ago and it blows. It's taken off the list.

Super Famicom Wars.
You wage war. How much more manly can you get?

Honestly, it sounds like one of those japanese RTS's thats riddled with japanese text and poorly cropped jaggy photographs of terrible japanese actors with samurai gear on...
But I'll see what I can find on it.

Apparently I'm an idiot! I guess it's the predecessor to Advance Wars? That's the only games I know in the series, I didn't know it went back to as far as the NES!
I don't think I'm going to include any RTS's, but I would like to find a translation of this game! I love the humor in it too!

...Yeah, if I were making this list, these would be my rough guide lines:
First of all, to be manly, you should probably be playing as, oh, I dunno, say...at least 1 man. Kinda DQ's predators(unless we were talking about the arcade game in which you can opt for Major Dutch Schaefer), Battletoads, TMNT(unless Casey were involved), Metroid, Ninja Warriors(where you're robots), etc.
Second, menly men don't waste time with adventure: DQ's Metroid, Zelda, and other such exploration based time wasters.
Third, menly men don't level up, they just kick ass as is: DQ's RPG's and everything else where you see "level up"
Fourth, menly men, look and act like men: DQ's PS1/Nintendo handheld Castlevania(if the 3rd rule didn't), Final Fantasy(again, if the 3rd rule didn't already), Zhang He from Dynasty Warriors, etc.
Fifth, menly men face things head on, not inside vehicles of any kind: DQ's 98% of all shoot em ups, vehicular combat games(includes whatever you'd call something like Spy Hunter), etc.
Sixth, Power Rangers will never be manly...
So yeah, my list would pretty much be nothing but beat em ups/hack n slash, and run n guns
I would've also gone with no super powers as well, which still leaves Batman. Kinda not really manly when you can fight enemies with abilities way beyond their reach.

I gotta say, I like your style. Definetely gonna revise the list a little bit.MidnightRider wrote:...Yeah, if I were making this list, these would be my rough guide lines:

Meh, was just stating the way I'd handle it. I don't know what you did with the NES, but you might as well keep going the same way.
