One last note: This list WILL contain massive spoilers. Continue reading on if you don't mind, but if you do mind, I'd suggest turning back now.
#10 - You won, but you die anyway = 7th Saga
At the end of 7th Saga, when you finally defeat the last boss, you get a REALLY lame ending. Why? Because even though you won the fight, you die anyway. All that hard work was for nothing. You die, and be reborn as a baby, and that's it. Nothing more. Sucks, huh?
#9 - I'm gonna die in 4 weeks if I don't kill Ganon on time?! = BS Zelda
If you've played BS Zelda, then you know that this game has a time limit. It was released in Japan via Satellite and an SFC Add-On over the course of 4 Weeks. The bad news is, each week only gave you about an hour to do everything for that part of the game, and if you failed by the 4th week to have done everything, you get a game over. I'm not sure if the game was broadcast more than once, so I don't know if players got a second chance.
#8 - How do you expect me to answer that?! = Ogre Battle
At the start of Ogre Battle, your asked a series of questions. One such question asks you who you want to save from a fire: Your mother, your wife, or your child. I don't think I need to detail this any further.
#7 - God is the final boss = Shin Megami Tensei II
If your a Christian, or at least know some things about Christianity, then you know that the Christian God's love for everyone is endless. Yet in this game, he is depicted as a ruthless, vain dictator who holds no love for humanity, and as such, serves as the game's final boss. He's also (as should be expected) incredibly tough, and when you finally do win, he curses the main character forever, which is shown to continue on in a future game in the series.
#6 - The main antagonist destroys the planet = Final Fantasy VI
A little more than halfway through the game, you'll face the Ultima (Atma in the US) Weapon boss. After you kill it, the main antagonist, Cefca (Kefka in the US) destroys the planet. How often did you see a game back then where the enemy actually wins? Definitely a WTF Moment.
#5 - OH MY GOD!! = Super Mario RPG
Right before you rescue the Princess in Super Mario RPG, you have to find her stuff scattered across a room. If you do it too slow though, Mario gets kissed by Bowser instead of Toadstool. Now that I think about it, I wonder if he has nightmares about that to this day. It would've been so funny if Nintendo made a joke about that in Mario And Luigi 3 for the DS. Heh.
#4 - OH MY GOD...AGAIN!! = Super Mario RPG (Japanese Version)
Now, here's an interesting one. If you go into the Castle in the Mushroom Kingdom at some point in the game (I forgot which point), and check in Toadstool's Room beside her Fireplace, you'll get a message saying "Found Toadstool's ???". However, in the Japanese Version, the same message will say "Found Peach's XXX". I'll give you a moment to take that in............Done? OK. Moving on.
#3 - Can he do that?! = Mega Man VII
Perhaps your familiar with the term "Robots cannot harm humans under any circumstances". Well, at the end of Mega Man VII, Dr. Wily tells this to Mega Man, only for him to retaliate with "I am more than a Robot! Die Wily!!!". Before Mega Man can kill him though, Wily is rescued by his minion Bass. Still, this probably made some people say WTF.
#2 - Is all hope lost? = Chrono Trigger
Hailed by many as the best of the SNES RPGs, this game features an iconic and shocking scene, where halfway through the game, the Main Character, Crono, is killed by Lavos, a being from space that him and his team were trying to kill to protect they're future. More than likely, this shocked the hell out of everyone who played it for the first time.
#1 - The person your trying to rescue is the Final Boss = Magic Knight Rayearth
When you defeat the main antagonist in this game, you find out that the Queen of the Land was in love with him, and she is completely torn by the fact that you killed him. She basically goes berserk, and it's your responsibility to defeat her.
Well, that's it. I hope you enjoyed reading this. Another article coming soon...I hope.
