Is it PS, PS1, PS One, or PSX?
What is the proper acronym for the PlayStation? I have the original, gray model and I've always called it a PS1. However, I always see or hear people calling it "PSX". What the "X" stands for, I don't know. So which is it? PS, PS1, PS One, PSX? I really don't know...

PSX was the name while under development and it is also the name of a big Playstation unit with lots of other features that was only out (or was it still prototype only?) in Japan. The proper designation for the older brick Playstation is a PS1. The smaller redesigned Playstation is a PSOne.

I am also confused by this. Especially the part about PSX, which I thought was the Japan-only DVR/PS2 thing (which is awesome btw), but people use it to mean a Playstation.

THIS IS A PSX
THIS Is NOT a psx

THIS Is NOT a psx

Re: Is it PS, PS1, PS One, or PSX?
PS1 is the only I see most people use, and since the PSX and PSOne were both specific product variations of the line, I say go with that. PS itself I see as a brand, so to me it refers to all of Sony's consoles and handhelds.
Re: Is it PS, PS1, PS One, or PSX?
I personally call it psx, because i found other people calling it psx
you can't call it ps1 , because its not called ps1 by sony, it was just playstation
but if you say playstation now every one will be like : 1, 2 or 3?
psx ends the story
also, ps1 , might make people think you are talking about psONE , which is the smaller white console...psx slim i guess

PSX does not end the story. There is already something called PSX besides the original playstation an the PSone remodel.
The only thing I can compare it to would be calling a normal gamecube A Panasonic Q. Or the n64 the Ultra 64. One of those probably is comparable, probably.

I could just call it: "That big gray thing that plays compact discs."kingmohd84 wrote:I personally call it psx, because i found other people calling it psx

I think the miss understanding started with the original playstation's codename being PSX. Then they decided to release it as just "PlayStation" but Sony of America decided to brand it PSX, even though Sony of Japan didn't want to call it that.
They stopped calling it that, but the damage was already done, and many people know it as the PSX now.

I don't remember it being called PSX, just playstation. But then again I didn't own one in the 90's. If they didn't name their DVR psx there wouldn't be a problem.
