A couple Saturn questions

Post by kuervo »

I have just purchased a Saturn from my local video game shop and I have a couple newb questions.

1. The store also has the Japanese white analog controller (the UFO one that was included with Nights) and the Japanese Bomberman multi-tap. Will they work on my US system? The store worker said they were not compatible but he seemed unsure. If so, are there any other Japanese accessories that will not work with US systems?

2. Is there any must-have accessories for the Saturn I should look into?

Thanks!

They will work. I have a white 3d controller and I use it on my American model 2.

As far as must have acc goes, you need to get yourself a 4in1, it will allow you to play all the SNK and Capcom games that required 1M and 4M ram expansions as well as import games.

Oh man, this. Also, I'd look into getting Model 2 controllers if you didn't get any with the console. The Model 1's beefcakes really aren't very good, especially the D-pad and poor shoulder buttons. So if you're not investing in a stick or just want a decent controller that doesn't feel like you're holding a brick, get the Model 2s.

Oh, and games. Lots of games. You might also consider picking up spare batteries to chance out the one in your Saturn.

Controllers and stuff are region-free.

Games are not. You'll need to get an Action Replay 4-in-1 if you want your Saturn to be worth a damn.

Also, get an S-Video connection if you don't already have one. It makes stuff look MUCH better. I can't even go back to the old connections - S-Video is a must.

The controllers and other accessories will work no problem, and they do look a bit cooler than their us counterparts, so if their at a decent price get them.

Things to get

1. CR2032 3V Lithium battery. You will need this for internal storage and i can probably guarantee that the system came with a dead one so pick one or two of these so you can replace it.

2. Action Replay 4 in 1 cart or some other way to play imports. If your handy with a soldering iron you can put in a region switch mod and forgo the cart for normal memory carts and expansion carts. The choice is yours and totally comes down to preference, but either way you need to be able to play imports.

3. Mod Chip: If you want to sample games like Radiant Silvergun and Panzer Dragoon Saga without forking over insane money, or if you just want to back up and play your own legit games this is a must as well. Install it yourself or you can get someone else to do it, probably someone on this forum.

4. Light guns: The system has some great light gun games, and most are pretty affordable. Get at least one official sega Stunner. Its a well made damn fine light gun.

5. Memory Cart: Whether its the 4 in 1 or an official memory cart you are going to need a way to save your games other than the internal. There is just too little of it to be effective.

This is summed up nicely! I would also add to purchase some legit import games once you have your 4 in 1 cart. Its a nice addition to any collection at an affordable price!

Am I seriously the only person who considers the S-Video cable a must-have?

Maybe I'm the odd one, I dunno.

Not at all. I'm behind your statement 100%! S-video makes the Saturn look so much better.
