Trying to play NTSC games on a Japanese PS2 (Free McBoot)
Trying to play NTSC games on a Japanese PS2 (Free McBoot)
I have a slim, Japanese PS2 with Free McBoot running on it. It is working great, and I love it, but I am having a heck of a time figuring out how to play regular NTSC games on it. I have found multiple ways to patch a Pal image to an NTSC image and vice versa, but nothing on converting an NTSC image to an NTSC-J image. I've spent a few hours googling and scoured this section of the forums to no avail. Does anyone have any insight for me?

Not possible with genuine games. You need to rip it to ISO and use ESR patcher, then burn it and boot it using ESR Loader.

I don't think any conversion is required, only applying the ESR patch. Burned NTSC-J games play fine on a US system using ESR. I would assume it would work the other way around.

The only way to do it it is to use swapmagic.elf (you can save it to your memory card), once you have it running, it is the same as using swapmagic.

Well this is embarrassing. I assumed it didn't work because the game i tested with didn't boot up, turns out it was a bad disc. Flak Beard, you are 100% correct.
Thanks all for the input, sorry to waste your time!
