These new fighting games (is it just me?)
So I figured I'd be really excited about Street Fighter IV or the Capcom Vs Namco announcement or the new Marvel Vs Capcom game thats' coming out. But frankly, all the screens I've seen... they just look wrong to me. I mean sure the graphics are pretty or whatever. But the camera angles, the lack of sprites... it just doesn't appeal to me. SFIV just doesn't look like a SF game to me. Is it just me?

SF IV and BlazBlue - the only two non HD-remakes I've played this gen - feel great to me and look amazing. Have you actually played them?noiseredux wrote:So I figured I'd be really excited about Street Fighter IV or the Capcom Vs Namco announcement or the new Marvel Vs Capcom game thats' coming out. Fighting game fans as a whole don't' seem to happy with the 2.5D look. Most seem to just see it as a way to cut down development time/costs and just begrudgingly accept it. You won't find a person in the world who thinks SF4 looks better than SF3.
Gameplay wise though, SFIV still feels like the 2D games, and if you play it you'll agree.
There's still purely 2D games at least though. You have seen Blazblue and the new KoF right?

that's good news!AppleQueso wrote: Gameplay wise though, SFIV still feels like the 2D games,
Actually no. I hadn't really kept up with current games short of what I might see in Game Informer or on a trial kiosk in Target or something. Though now that I finally got a Wii I've started to pay a bit more attention to current games. There's still purely 2D games at least though. You have seen Blazblue and the new KoF right?

Well KoF12/13 (well 12 was a crap game but we'll ignore that bit for now) along with Blazblue both use hand drawn HD sprites.noiseredux wrote:I have not.dsheinem wrote:Have you actually played them?

The wii has Tatsunoko vs Capcom, so you could try playing it if you want a taste of this 2.5D looking stuff.

that's another one! I was excited about the roster and then I looked at screens and was kind of like... I'll pass.AppleQueso wrote: The wii has Tatsunoko vs Capcom, so you could try playing it if you want a taste of this 2.5D looking stuff.
Call my old fashioned, but I guess I like my fighting sprites 2D...

Is that the only non compilation-based fighting game on the Wii?AppleQueso wrote: The wii has Tatsunoko vs Capcom, so you could try playing it if you want a taste of this 2.5D looking stuff.

There's also Castlevania Judgement...dsheinem wrote:Is that the only non compilation-based fighting game on the Wii?AppleQueso wrote: The wii has Tatsunoko vs Capcom, so you could try playing it if you want a taste of this 2.5D looking stuff.

I played Castlevania Judgement, it's pretty awful. You can get some laughs or a bit of enjoyment, but it's hard to enjoy heh. BlazBlue is incredible though.swiftzx wrote:There's also Castlevania Judgement...dsheinem wrote:Is that the only non compilation-based fighting game on the Wii?AppleQueso wrote: The wii has Tatsunoko vs Capcom, so you could try playing it if you want a taste of this 2.5D looking stuff.
