Pretty sure there were chips in the various 'Tower-of-Power' enhancements for the Genesis.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

More colors are obvious but the sega version has that arcade look to it. In some cases I think the snes went too soft. It's almost like the fact that the snes had a wider palette and more pastels made developers think they HAD to use them.

The SNES has what my brother likes to call a kind of 'blur effect' - kinda' like the N64; everything looks smoothened out which gives it a cleaner but less sharp look.

That being said, there are SNES games that get a lot of their appeal from beautiful use of colour and detail which I don't imagine would carry over well to the Genesis.

All in all, I can't choose. There are games I feel will naturally look better on Genesis and others on SNES.

I think although there are extreme cases for both consoles, overall the SNES had better looking games. They sure as hell sounded better too so that doesn't hurt either.

If we're going to bring up different chips in carts, then I feel that this should serve as my answer:

Because people fear a hands down winner. I've never seen a TG16 game that didn't have the most amazing colors and detail.

Shining Force CD
Shin Megami Tensei (j

Sega Classics Arcade Collection
Samurai Shodown
Time Gal
Vay
Syndicate
Prince of Persia
Popful Mail
The Ninja Warriors
Mortal Kombat
Fatal Fury Special
Earthworm Jim: Special Edition
Dark Wizard
Dark Seed
Also Sega was capable of having Sega CD 32x

I do agree Sega had bit more to offer at the time. There was a time when nintendo had the disk drive system for oringal NES which was never released here in the US and that other SNES machine that goes underneath the system for games like legend of zelds BS. Also Nintendo was known keep an exclusive game on their console for 2 years contract. making a certain number of games a years contract. I mean Square, konami, capcom could have cashed into SEGA CD device, I think they would have changed there minds. Sure Sega 32 may have been a bad idea. Virtual boy was nintendo bad idea, rush development.

As said before, the snes does have better color, in my opinion. The genesis just seems darker to me, even sonic just looks not as happy as Mario world.

I like the Genesis's "grittier" look brought on by the sharper corners and more shallow colors, but I can openly admit that the graphics are inferior to the Super Nintendo. However, I'd like to repeat the notion that's been hinted at a little bit throughout the course of this discussion, in that from time to time, the Genesis just brings out fuller compositions due to the effort put forth by the developers.

Foremost, I'm a big fan of dark and/or gritty environments juxtaposed with loads of funky neon colors, which really stand out due to the well-used contrast of a composition. If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a couple of examples (there are several more, but I don't feel like cluttering up this page too awfully much... these are the least subtle examples I could find):

The darkness/grittiness of the scenes contrasted with those brilliant splatterings of bizarro hues of purple, blue, orange, red, and green has always been an object of fascination for me. I will say that Super Metroid utilizes this method outstandingly well, but on the whole I'd say that the Genesis happens to have more instances of this awesome artistic sensibility. Oh, and to put it simply, if "Genesis-purple" were a crayon, I'd eat it.
