Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Some pics from the Austin Racketboy Meet at Game Over in Austin:

Image

The back of the GameOver store is a shrine to the existence of console gaming. They were generous enough to let us set up in this monument to how we kill time.

Image

On the other side of the store, one of the biggest SD TVs I've ever seen.

Image

Behold the first official 5 way Racketboy Guardian Heroes Championship. All hail Replica, masher of the buttons and champion of all.

Image

This is what it takes.

Image

A deliberately anonymous picture of the men that made this possible: Hobie, Wipeout, and the GameOver guy (whose name I've forgotten because I am awesome).
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

no one got my PM yet :(

It is imperative you get it before the meetup is over...
Terribly sorry about that. By the time this message came through, we were at Game Over setting up. There was no internet connection to keep in touch or to receive updates.

The meet was epic. Yes, it truly deserves that term. We had a showing of about 11 people and all who attended had a blast. A HUGE thanks goes out to David and the Game Over staff for letting us hold this event. They were perfect and helped us with any needs we had. The TVs they set up for us are among the biggest CRTs we have ever seen.

We appreciate all of the support and a big thanks to everyone who came to game and meet.

Some highlights:

-42" Sony flat tube CRT

-5 player Guardian Heroes match!!!!! We almost made it to 6, but we ran out of controllers. Replica came out of nowhere and destroyed the competition.

-4 player, split screen Ghost in the Shell: SAC. Hobie died 40 times.

-"I got next" style fighting game matches with KOF. That's right; arcade sticks and all. Flake showed us how it was done.

-Pat (from Neo-Geo.com) revealing this incredible PS2 import shmups collection. CAVE lust. Hobie nearly had a seizure trying to keep up with the bullet patterns.

-Streets of Rage 2 on a 37" flat tube CRT, pumping the store full of sweet Yuzo Koshiro beats.

-3 player coop Scott Pilgrim VS The World at Sharky's house after the meet.

Glad to hear it went well. I hope this means that there will be another event, that way I can join in next time. I'd look forward to it.

Hey guys, send me emails with your pictures. I'm going to send them to Game Over and put together a youtube video with the video that was taken and some slides.

Other highlights to mention:

- Die Hard Arcade Co-op
- 6 player split-table Vietnamese dining

This was an awesome event. Huge thanks to wip3outguy7, hobie, and Pat for bringing all the cool retro hardware and games. Also, the Game Over people were gracious hosts, much like they were for the Classic Games Fest 2010. Plus, it was pretty convenient that a 20%-off-everything sale coincided with our meetup. Score!

In general, this was a great group of people that came together. I was more or less a stranger off the street with a single post to my username and these guys were very friendly and welcoming. I really appreciated that.

I wish I could have been there. Now if only I could convince the people in the Atlanta area to have a meet up.
