On one hand, I seem to prefer the random Metroid games, with part II and Fusion being my favorites. And while I played and own Prime 1-3 and Hunters, I didn't complete them all and I don't like the Prime series as much as I like the original 2D Metroid-vania style games. A whole Metroid game in first person view is fine, but Other M having both 2D and first person, is something I'm not 100% sold on yet. Also, the story and cutscenes seem interesting, but I'm concerned it might seem forced or even break up the action/exploring elements (which is something, as much as I absolutely love the series overall, bothers me about the Metal Gear Solid games).

On the other hand, I'm always excited about anything Metroid (or Nintendo for that matter) and so I'm excited to see the awesome action clips and that Samus looks great-graphics wise. I've read that Ridley is in there too, which is really cool. And the NES control scheme is a absolutely great idea in theory, so I really hope it plays well.

We'll see, I guess. In the end, I'm sure I'll break down and buy it on launch day.
Well Metroid Prime wasn't entirely first person, when you went into the ball it was third person.

Also, Metroid: Other M is going to have 2D gameplay? That's awesome! If you're worried about it though, look at Super Mario Galaxy 2. That game went into 2D from 3D a lot and it turned out great!

You are correct. However, to me, the third person parts of Prime games seemed to last for only seconds at a time, and overall were pretty rarely used in comparison to the amount of time you spent either shooting or scanning in first person.

And just to clarify, the 2D stuff I've seen of Other M is, I guess, technically 2.5D. But I agree again with you when you point out that Mario Galaxy 2 was very smart with it's switch between the side scrolling and 3D, which only made Galaxy 2 a great and fun game, imo.

Might be more assuring for people still on the fence about picking it up.
And thanks for this. As much as I like the movie style of the American commercial, this one does put some of my concerns to rest. Cutting between both games you can see that there is a lot of the old Metroid in the game play. The quick clip of Samus running, jumping, and gunning down baddies in an Aliens-style hallway is enough to make me feel better, haha.
