N64 Rumble Paks stopped working

Post by Satoshi_Matrix »

Recently I've gotten back into the N64, so I naturally wanted to play with the good ol' rumble paks. After putting in fresh batteries, I was disappointed to find that neither seems to work anymore.

They're both Nintendo made Rumble paks and they seem to be in good shape. They won't work on either the official Nintendo controller or my Hori mini pad.

What can I do about troubleshooting?

Since both of them are not working my first question would be are you sure the game supports them?

Any game released before starfox 64 wouldn't be compatible with the rumble pak.

I would definitely check if the games are compatible first. 8)

Not to sound condescending but, you did match the + to the + and - to the -, right? People do make that mistake still...
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Also, it could be malfunctioning port on the controller. Try to clean the connectors.

Whoops, forgot to mention some details. Yes, I got the battery polarity correct. I've been testing it with Star Fox 64. Notta. When it comes to cleaning N64 controllers, how does one go about doing that?

Be sure the power is off. Clean anywhere there is a metal contact.
Controller port, rumble pak connectors and even the battery contacts.

Maybe try swapping different controllers and rumble paks.
Try different ports too, in multiplayer mode.
Is the rumble option turned on in Starfox?
