Ok - so I got my 32x today and connected to my model 2 Genesis and Sega CD setup. Everything works except the 32x makes an odd static cracking like noise whenever it is turned on - does not affect gameplay. I swapped AC adapters with the Genesis and it still makes the noise, so I don't think that is the issue.
Anyone experiance this or have any idea of what might be going on?

there is probably a interference occurring in the cross over cable from the genny to the 32X. Are you using the A/V cables from the 32X for audio, or are you using the SegaCD's audio outputs?
If you are using the 32X cables, then take your audio from the sega CD, this should solve your issues. If some issues still persist, some latent disturbance is still being mixed into the Sega CD audio during the mixing process... and you should look making sure you have clean connections going from the Genny to the 32X.
One of the big issues with this Genny/SCD/32X connection is it turns the machine into a monstrous beast of radiation (not the lethal uranium kind) emenating as radio frequencies. There are tons of wires that open up holes for interference along with tons of unprotected processors with out shielding. This is why Sega supplied all those findangle plates and shields that have to be placed in the beast. Make sure you have all those plates installed (the one underneath the genny, and the ones in the cartridge slot of the genny where you slide the 32X in).
It is still always best to utilize the SegaCD RCA jacks for your audio, the best possible sound comes from the SCD as it has the most robust sound processors on it with direct connections to the audio processor board.
...
This is I am assuming that you mean your speakers are making a static crackling noise. If the console itself is making a static crackling noise... well then, my God what the hell is THAT!?

Thanks for the information lordofduct however it is the 32x itself making the noise. I removed power from the TV just to make sure. I didn't install the shields just yet, will do that and try again.

Originally I had the Sega Cd and 32x on one strip. The Genesis was on another. I put all three on the same one - still no luck. I also removed the Sega CD from the setup to narrow down the problem.are they in different outlets??

Did you install the 32X using the metal shields which hold the Genesis' cart door open? (Maybe these aren't used on Gen II?, they were used on my Gen I). Those shields help ground the 32x through the Genesis and it's power source. Poorly grounded electronic equipment can cause static (both audio and video).
Just a thought.

if you don't have those plates in... put them in. They are necessary for proper shielding and grounding.
Static noise put off by the components is usually caused by an overload of power to it. It has nowhere to send the unused power and just spits it out as heat... this change creates a really annoying noise. Kinda like the noise you hear from a transformer on the powerlines (just not as intense... your only disapating 3-5v, not 10,000v)

Ok - I've installed the metal things, removed the Sega CD, and make sure both the Genesis and the 32x are on the same power switch. Still getting the noise. I tried swapping the Genesis and 32x AC adapters with no luck. Going to try another outlet later.
I don't suppose Sega still overs any support for the 32x?
