Wii remote IR range problem???

What happens when you use the sensor bar that came with the black console? Do you have the same problem?
yes i do, i forgot to mention that as that was an easy swap i tried the sensor bar that came with the black console. :?

That's odd. I suggest calling Nintendo Support and discussing the problem with them. It sounds like your wii might be defective. Maybe the black wii is not outputting enough power to the sensor bar to power the LEDs satisfactorily.

problem solved, i thought i'd try a system update to see if that helped and it has. i now have the same range as my old white Wii. thanks for all the replies folks. :D

Glad to hear that you solved your issue. What version was the wii at before? 4.2?

honestly don't know what it was on, but as it is a black Wii it can't be that old can it?
