Yeah, the combat is a slower pace than recent beat 'em ups, but I feel like it needed to be. The combat system feels much deeper - I feel like you have to approach battles much more tactically than you would any other brawler. If it were fast, you'd either be getting creamed constantly or you'd only be using a very small portion of the tools available. It almost feels like a fusion with 2D Fighters - especially considering many of the moves seem to be inspired by fighters like roll evasions and the split-second block counters.

If you go to the options menu and check out character data, you'll be able to reset the stats/levels for Scott, Kim, Stills, Ramona and two ??? characters.

If you beat the game with all four main characters, you unlock NegaScott. (He's basically Scott with different special attacks. Pretty fun to play as, though - with a funny ending too.) However, no one has unlocked the last character. If you sit through the end credits, you'll see a "Thank you for playing!" screen with Knives, NegaScott, Scott, Ramona, Kim and Stills in the center of the screen - which makes me and many others think that Knives might be the sixth character you unlock. Still no idea how, though.

Maybe you have to get all the trophies or something, or maybe figure out how to get to those other locations on the map. Also, I wonder what Knives' Striker would be?

A friend of mine just called me and told me that, apparently, no one has figured out how to access Boss Rush mode either. As such, it might not be far off to think that completing Boss Rush is one of the requirements to unlock Knives.

So just for the hell of it, I started a new game with a completely fresh, unleveled Ramona on Rough and Tough difficulty(was using Stills on my other game since he seems to start out with more health). Apparently, she can whip out that katana right at the beginning of the game!

Certainly was a nice way to start that playthrough :)

Yeah, I used Ramona on my first playthrough, and that was lucky enough to happen to me as well. Good lord, that katana is awesome. Between that ability, general speed and her hammer (which gives her a lot of reach), she's one of the best characters in the game.

I'm hoping for Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski.

I finally found out who the 6th character is, and unlocked him! [Yes, unfortunately, it isn't Knives, but you were close with that guess.] I was playing through Supreme Master Difficulty, replaying the same stage over and over for money-grinding purposes, when I saw something over at the World 4 circle; there was a guy in a trenchcoat standing on the circle. So, I went over, and it immediately put me into a boss fight with him; the boss' name was Mr. Chau. He wasn't too hard, since I maxed out most of my stats, but he was still a bit of a challenge. After the battle, it said I unlocked him as a playable character. I would have preferred Knives, [or even Young Neil  ], but this guy seems like a good fighter, too. I'll play through the game again with him to see what his ending is. The funny thing is, I haven't even unlocked Negascott yet!

Also, I just want to say, the second-to-last boss is a cheap son of a bitch. In Supreme master mode, if you lose the special sword in this battle, you don't get it back, unlike the other modes. This makes the fight a total nightmare. When I fought him, I lost the sword early on, and despite me having maximum lives, I still lost the battle. He keeps knocking you off the stage every time you try to respawn, so you have no time to guard, much less to fight back! I hate this motherfucker, I really, REALLY, REALLY hate him.

Actually, Mr. Chau isn't playable. (At least, not that way.)

You unlocked him as a Striker. I think you have to hold up + hit L1 to call him out. He's apparently the best striker in the game - although I can never get him to hit who I want.

Honestly, I'd love it if I could play as Mr. Chau =P Old Asian dude in a trenchcoat? Who wouldn't want that?

And yeah - I dunno how it would even be possible to defeat Gigadeon without the "Power of Love". I tried doing it once myself and didn't even come close.

Well, I finished it. Overall, I think the game is more style than substance. Great graphics, great soundtrack, tons of fan service, average gameplay.

I would definitely recommend Castle Crashers and Dishwasher Dead Samurai over it to more discerning beat'em up fans looking for great gameplay. However, it's a fun experience for the more casual beat'em up fan. The combat isn't too great, but ultimately it doesn't matter as once you get to the mystery room in the first stage and up your stats, the game is pretty much broken anyway

Honestly, I believe the combat for this game was one of its strongest points. I honestly can't think of any Beat 'Em Up with a deeper combat system with the exception of maybe Guardian Heroes, and even then I feel like this was deeper. (Granted, I still haven't played Dishwasher, but it felt much deeper than Castle Crashers to me.)

Tonight was the first night I got to play this game 4 player. It was a lot of fun, but just too insane for me. I prefer the much more manageable pace of 1-2 players more. Granted, I've yet to play a 4-Player Beat 'Em Up that didn't feel like a clusterfuck.

Really? I always thought that 4-player Beat-Em'-Ups were supposed to feel crazy and out of control. It sounds odd, but not knowing what is going on is part of the fun!
