The Official Wave Bird Appreciation Thread

Post by noiseredux »

Okay so I play a ton of 2D games on my Cube, so I'm usually switching between the Hori gamepad and the Hori arcade stick. But when it comes to 3D games, there's just no touching the Wave Bird. For a long time I figured it was just over-rated. What's the big deal? It's just wireless. And that means wasted batteries... but I had no idea. The Wave Bird is sooooooooo comfortable that I can barely imagine playing with a standard GCN controller now. So let's give it the thread it deserves.

I don't have a wavebird  but when I go to my friend's house, I use it and is a blast when playing double dash or brawl. I plan to pick one up soon though :D

I love my wavebird to death, but lately it's been giving me some trouble. It'll occasionally drop the signal, so for instance in Double Dash it'll stop turning for a second, stop hitting the gas, etc. Just enough to cause me ridiculous frustration. Does anyone know what frequency it uses? I'm wondering if it's getting some interference from something nearby.

Really amazing controller though, I should pick up some more of them so I don't need so many damn extension cables!

I must buy one soon. I must convince the cheapass in me to spend over $15. (There's one at my local game store for $17)

Usually when that starts happening to me, it means I need to put in fresh batteries. If you think the interference may be coming from some other RF device, try changing the channel on the Wavebird and dongle. I believe there are four different frequencies covered across the 16 channel choices. Hope that helps.

And my own personal thoughts on the Wavebird: I am a stringent supporter of this fine controller. I have a pair of dongles permanently affixed to the side of my Wii. It's the only controller I use for the Smash Bros. games and Virtual Console N64 games.

The Wave Bird is an amazing controller and should pick up some extra eventually. :)

It was definitely the best wireless controller design before bluetooth controllers became standard. The best thing was the battery life. I would accidentally leave mine on overnight sometimes, and it still worked. You could play through Tales of Symphonia on that thing on one set of batteries.

I love mine, picked it up at game stop around 2.5 years ago for 20 dollars. It was all sticky though...had to clean it and wore gloves while doing so haha. It's the only controller I'll use to play smash bros and mario kart on the wii, not a fan of the classic controller except for snes and nes games.

Aw yeah the Wavebird is my GameCube controller of choice. Well I only have two a regular stock purple one and the Wavebird hehe. I like it alot, but it would be even better if it had rumble. Maybe a switch to shut it on or off to save batteries.

Wavebird, great controller.

Sure, no rumble, but meh, rumble is overrated and unnecessary anyhow.
