Now I know why you gave this game an A.
I was never able to get the knives striker when using Kim. All I ever got to work is the kiss. Do you get the knives and the "Love" smoke cloud striker for Kim when you level up?
@lisalover1
No, the 'Love' Knives striker is just for Scott. Knives will do different things for different characters, Kim's Knives make-out one being especially useful for survival. For Ramona, she gives the entire party coffee, putting everyone into Hyper Mode. For Stills, she jumps up in the air and unleashes a load of over-sized shurikens onto your opponents.

There are other Strikers as well though, such as Mrs. Chau (not sure what she does) and Mr. Chau (He has to be unlocked by fighting him when he shows up on the main map. I've never gotten his striker to work properly, but it's apparently the best in the game if used properly.)

@dsheinem
Ha ha! Not quite, but it is pretty awesome. I seriously laughed out loud the first time I did it and saw enemies grab their crotches in response. Friggin' hilarious.

By the way, I played through as Ramona my first time, and I'd say she is a damn good choice too. She's fast, her hammer gives her a lot of reach, and she even starts out with one of the best special moves in the game - if you hold Triangle for two seconds and release, she'll pull a random item out of her bag. I actually got lucky once and had her pull out the Ninja Sword way before I even got to level 4, which was fan-freaking-tastic.

Sigh, not really enjoying this so far. Cheese factor is REALLY high in this game and as dsheinem said,it's kind of annoying having to level before you can actually DO anything

Ah, that's too bad. I do agree that the leveling system should have been handled a lot better, but it didn't really sour it much for me. I seriously feel that the game will start feeling a lot more fair as soon as you get the ability to grab. If you already have that ability, make sure you use it - it really helps against the block whores. Another ability that makes the game a lot easier is the evade.

The biggest problems I had in the beginning was not taking full advantage of blocking, specials and using my strikers. They really do help a lot (especially blocking), it's just hard to get out of that groove of only using the attack and jump buttons in a Beat 'Em Up.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I'll give it another shot later, it's not quite what I was expecting is all. I hate to admit it, but some of the reviews weren't completely off the mark. It is a bit rough playing it solo and it does seem like you have to do at least a little bit of grinding which I don't like.

I want to be able to just jump into a beat'em up and start kicking ass, without wondering why my character doesn't have basic skills like grabbing. As dsheinem said, developers need to be careful about how they implement levelling systems. I'd rather they add something to a game rather than feel like a handicap, which is the feeling I get from playing Scott Pilgrim. I'll play it some more later when I'm in less of a ranty mood :lol:
