So, anyone play contra 4 yet?

Post by Pullmyfinger »

I've been playing lots of it lately, its awesome, feels like a cross between the first 3 contras. Many of the enemies are from contra 1 with updated sprites and many stages, music and bosses are inspired by it too. Some previous bosses also reappear in pseudo 3d battles. The dual weapon system from contra 3 is still there, although you can't fire both guns at the same time. This is compensated by having stronger guns when grabbing the same power up a second time.

Pretty awesome, pure old school action!

Yup, and its hard!

If you love Contra this is extreme fan service. My only major gripe is its not the best game for me on the bus. Still worth a purchase for anyone on this board!

It's my next DS purchase.

I thought about Phantom Hourglass, but it seems a little too "casual" for me. One thing Contra 4 won't be, is casual.

I'm probably going to order it soon as it's not available in Japan any time soon (not even a release date...)

You're right, it's hard, I haven't beaten it yet on Normal, I get to stage 9. Never tried easy mode, wikipedia says that the first 2 contras are unlockable too. Too many 3d-ish stages for my taste, kinda miss the overhead stages

The only reason I haven't picked it up is that I figure I'll get my ass handed to me and I'll feel like I spent $30 just to get frustrated.

Pretty much depends how good you are at other contras, if you beat alien wars on hard mode you'll do well, the learning curb isn't too bad

I'm historically bad. That's the issue :)

Pretty neat, i thought it would have been 30 for nostalgia

Might try it, I'm up to level 9, but it gets insane after a while
