Clear/transparent carts

Post by brendanraymond »

Hi

I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything too useful.

Basicaly I am looking for a MD cart that is transparent/translucent/clear/frosted or something.

I want something nice to put the everdrive in that will let light through when I put some purple LEDs inside :D

I was thinking about something like this:

From what other sega forums tell me is that there was never a cart like it...

So I was wondering if guys could tell me if I could possibly use a snes cart or something like that?

He was just providing an example of what he'd like to put his Gen flash cart guts in.

I haven't exactly seen many Gen bootlegs, but even with those I haven't really (ever?) seen oddly shaped or clear carts. Heck the only official ones that jump to mind beyond the standard shapes are the Codemaster multiplayer carts, EA, and Accolade ones. Of course none of those are clear.

Dude, I just finished "assembling" my everdrive! Good move buying one, it is FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, like Hobie I've never seen a clear MD/Genesis cart that you could take advantage of. Anyway, I don't know if it's the best idea to steal power for LED's from the everdrive. I mean, you could end up fucking it so it doesn't work.

Would it be all THAT hard to simply get one made? I mean you'd just need a legitimate genesis cart for the mold, right?

It wouldn't be that difficult, but it wouldn't be cheap either. It'd only be worthwhile if you were going to get a large amount of them made, or just have money to blow.

You'd have to make a mold from the cart, then cast one. Making a good mold that lasted more than a few carts would be expensive, then making a cast with something usable wouldn't be easy. There's low temp melting project plastic stuff like Shapelock, but that's a semi opaque color I believe.

I think the easiest way to do this is using a plaster of parris mould made from a jap cart but smoothed out those fin like paturns on the side, then I would just use the crystal clear polyester resin that I already have then I would put it inside a vacuum chamber to get the bubbles out.

I think a good idea would be to use the actual base of the jap cart to make the guide for where it slots into the megadrive as it would be stronger than resin.

when its cured I will then remove the greased up and wrapped with glad wrap memory card and start button.

this is going to be pretty tricky to get those bits working.

THIS. I read about heating clear plastic in the oven where its pliable and bent over a pre-made clay mold.
Send out the bat signal, I think it was Bacteria the portable custom case modder!

I don't think its such a good idea to pour hot molten plasitic @ 300 degrees C (or whatever) on precision electronics... but thats just me :S
