A lot of good stuff has been mentioned so far, the other things I would recommend are

Yoshi's Island (Super Mario World 2)
Super Turrican
UN Squadron

If you want to try something a little different, consider getting Out of this World. It's cheap and worth playing just to see it.

Y'know, with all the retro stuff going on here, I'm surprised Racket doesn't have a how-to guide for replacing batteries, opening carts, etc as one of his 'retro guides'. I know I've seen posts about it here and there but I've yet to see a full-fledged guide on the site (if memory serves me correctly)~

(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

That's a good idea. Maybe one of the more tech savvy folks around here could write a contribution for the main page. I'm kind of dreading the day I boot up Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana and get blank saves.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

We have a guide like that on the main page. We will be making picture heavy guides for it in the somewhat near future - namely I have to replace the battery on a Secret of Mana cart I just need some free time.

I see lots of suggestions of Cybernator but no suggestion of Metal Warriors. If you like one you'll like the other.

FYI Ranma 1/2 Super Battle is a lot better than Hard Battle. Unfortunately it is Japanese only.

I have a Mario Kart that needs a battery too but need a tabbed one or a super thin holder so I haven't gotten to it. Salvaged PC mobo ones are too thick and MK fills the cart.

That's on my want list for sure, but I haven't found it for a reasonable price yet.

Mega Man X
Donkey Kong Country
Kirby Super Star
Super mario world 2 (Yoshi's Island)
Super mario Kart (you need them all)

Super star wars is a really fun platfomer/run n gun type thing, i like it. And I heard that the contra games on snes (contra 3 i think but not sure) are really good, if thats what your into. Oh, and pilotwings is good apparently, i havent looked into it though. XD
