Might have to search out a copy once I finish 2017 since it seems this will work on HD Loader so I could play it here in NTSC land.

Did you read my review? It is my opinion that Global Defense Force is a much better game than Earth Defense Force 3 (2017) because it offers more verity. Global Defense Force is the best game in the entire liberty of Simple 2000 games. You won't regret importing this game, espically considering it goes for so little these days.

About the HD loader thing, let me know how that works. I had to import a copy from France, discover its 50Hz only, then rip it to .iso using imgburn, run an PAL-to-NTSC y-fix program and burn the corrected copy.

And one final word to the wise: torrents for this game (not the TBS Tactics) are near impossible to find and the few that are out there are corrupt. Just stop being extremely cheap and take the time to import it.

Looks to be a great game. Love the spinoff of 50s Sci Fi movie Them!, those giant ants!

The Pal version seems to be the one to get if video conversion can work. I know PAL ICO has a built in 60hz option in the game offering correct screen sizing for NTSC. Does PAL Global Defense have that option built in the game somewhere? I converted a PS1 game Little Big Adventure Relentless from PAL to NTSC with good results with exception to top-bottom edges of game screen stretched out of range of TV.

There is the japanese NTSC version, is Global Defense language friendly if in the Japanese language?

The Japanese NTSC version.

Japanese NTSC or Euro PAL?
Language vs screen quality.

Yes I did. I already own 2017 and am in the middle of it right now.

I'm sure it will be a while before I get around to picking it up. If I do I'll surely rip it to an ISO, patch for 60 hz, then drop it on the hard drive. But it is on the HD Loader compatibility chart, so it's just a matter if the 50/60 patch works.

Unlike some other Simple 2000 games, Global Defense Force is 50 Hz only.

I also own the Japanese version, and it's menus are completely in Japanese. Since weapon descriptions are somewhat important the PAL version is preferable. Once NTSC patched, there is no difference between the performance of either version on an NTSC tv. Still, the Japanese version is completely playable if you can read some Japanese or don't mind the trial and error that comes playing a game in another language. Either way, you'll need a chipped PS2 as PS2 games are region locked by default.

The only thing the Japanese version that the European release doesn't is frantic (and rather annoying honestly) radio chatter and screams. This is all in Japanese, but its the kind of thing you would expect a news broadcaster to sound like in a Godzilla movie.

Good info to know. Thanks!

So how is the patched to NTSC PAL version? No screen cutoffs when running on NTSC?

So to get the Japanese version with guesstimate of weapons and NTSC trouble free install? Or look for the PAL version, I'll post here if I do buy either version one on the cheap. HDAdvance/HDLoader will install imports easily without a mod chip if PS2 FAT has a flip lid.

EDIT
Well, I went to my local Japanese source today, no luck on NTSC Simple 2000 #81. Stupid Amazon UK won't allow shipping of PAL game to different region zones either. Just have to keep my eye open.

How about you stop whining about how people obtain their games?

I only said that because I've had two people PM me asking me for the .iso.

I certainly didn't ask. It seemed like you were calling the thread responders cheap. You might have mentioned you were talking about PMs. :P
