My Cocktail MAME

Post by girlracer »

I've been building this over the past 3 weeks, I still have software work to deal with considering i know nothing about this, and it being a 4 player setup. I picked up the cab off craigslist for $50 it was an old rally x machine. I had no idea what I wanted to do with it but it was missing the board and the screen had a lot of burn in. I had my old custom pc hooked to my lcd tv but I never used it so I thought it be good for the project.

But I'm proud of myself, I knew nothing about MAMEs and I ended up doing this whole project myself.

I got rid of the old crt and traded it for a 22 inch lcd

Nice. But is the thing uncomfortable? I remember back in the day playing gameboy and my neck hurting from trying to get the right lighting.

Very nice indeed

First let me say great work. The wide screen LCD being used as a vertical monitor one way and then as a standard cab the other is a freaking fantastic idea. I love it.

What I was wondering is what is with the 6 button setup on the right side when playing horizontal?

Indeed looks great. Did you set it up that way for lefty/righty accomodation with the sticks and buttons?

pretty much, i don't have a problem playing either way being that i'm right handed. its such a small space on that side that i didn't want someone elbowing anyone else.

Freeken beautiful, Looks very sweet, I am very envious.

The side by side controls for horizontal play; maybe you could make the spare set of controls a dual er triple purpose thru toggle switches? The Lefty Righty option or Two player mode or Twin Stick mode for games such as Virtua On and Robotron. If only using Mame, then individual Roms can be TAB-MENU tailored to your controller layout. That is if the righty-lefty have separate pinouts.

I do agree with comment that cocktail tables are a little on the short cramped side sometimes table glare issues. Easily remedied with table leg extensions or even some locking casters to spin that table for the verical-horizontal mode. Maybe even a tilt feature to avoid craning the neck? I love your great idea of tha horizontal-vertical separate controls!

Drop wheels on back two to to tilt table towards player vertical or horizontal.
Trick is finding a set that will go more then just an inch or two. Maybe quick release pins?
Mounted on inside of legs would give a little more tilt and keep the overall footprint small.
