I did a lot of growing up today.

I just passed my general exam, which means my dissertation proposal has been accepted and I am formally a doctoral candidate (One step closer to putting PhD at the end of my name, but PhC will have to suffice for now). Woohoo!

In addition to that, my wife and I just locked in a loan at a really low interest rate (4.375%) to buy our first house. This is exactly one week after our 2 year anniversary.

Jesus, when did I become such a goddamn grownup!

Congratulations! I don't think I've seen the "PhC" designation - seems silly. What's wrong with A.B.D.?

I too would be curious to learn about your dissertation project since I've been down that road too...if you need some advice from time to time or an outside reader from a related discipline, don't hesitate to ask.

(Also, congrats on the house! I got one of those while working on the dissertation, too. )

p.s. If you REALLY want to feel grown up - just wait until you hear those three words "I am pregnant." Even if you are planning to hear them, they will still make your hair turn gray in a millisecond.
