GameFAQs-What do you think of it?

I frequent this, shmups, and troll for information on the DQ9 GameFAQs boards (or whatever RPG I'm currently playing).

Like most people here, I use it for the guides. I haven't bought a strategy guide in about 8 years.

If I'm stuck on a game to the point of rage quitting, then I'll use a gamefaqs guide (which is what I've done since I think maybe 1998). But I don't use the forum at all. The yearly character battles are good for a laugh though.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I've been a regular user there for 10 years now.

The forums can be fun, you just have to stay away from certain boards. If you go to say, any of the Call of Duty boards, well then you're just asking for trouble. Of course you're gonna be pissed off in 30 seconds flat, but think about who you're talking to you know?

A lot of the special interest boards are great. I frequently go to both Comics and Graphic Novels & Cartoons and Animation. Both good boards with regulars who are good people.

The dedicated game boards are iffy. Generally, the more high profile the game is, the more idiots will inhabit its board, which makes sense. Low profile titles usually have a fun, informative board, if slow moving.

Of course, the site as a whole was better back in the day before the merge with Gamespot. The forum merge between the two sites invited a lot of jerkoffs onto the boards, and its common now for people to blow someone off on the grounds that they are a gamespot user.

My username there is SegaMaster (I was 13 back then, I thought it sounded cool), if anybody here ever spots me, say hi!

Honestly, I've checked gamefaqs maybe thrice for hints on obscure games where I just got stuck. One time it was for Ultimate Alliance. I played that game for weeks, stopped, then couldn't remember what the hell I was trying to do a few weeks later.

This makes me ask the question, how many forums do you guys frequent? This is my favorite forum out of the two I post at, and can barely find the time to post here on slack days. I couldn't imagine posting on half a dozen forums.
I mainly frequent GameFAQs and Racketboy. I really like the interface and community (well for RB at least) of the two. I do check and post occasionally at Digital Press, but those are the only 3 I've been to.
I check out a variety of sites, but this is really the only forum where I regularly interact with people. I use gamefaqs a lot for info, but not for forums. Though I did interact with others on gamefaqs forums in the past, before I discovered the more mature and knowledgeable people on racketboy

I frequent the SNES boards, but that's about it. I'll pop my head in the Playstation boards or some individual game boards from time to time, but not much else. The people on the SNES boards are civil for the most part. I also, as most people here, use it frequently as database of information, and for guides on the rare occasions I need to use one.

You'd be wise to stay away from the reviews for the most part, though. They pretty much have no standards when it comes to accepting reviews, most of them being incredibly poorly written, factually inaccurate and just plain idiotic. Its sometimes acceptable to look at the average review score of a game you've never heard of, just to see what the general consensus is, but don't place too much value in it.

For video games I use the forums at RB, Shmups, Digitpress and sometimes Famicom World. I lurk several others from time to times. I also use some music forums, tech forums and I sometimes use the forums at Cinemageddon.

I have never even gone to GameFAQs that I can recall. I tend to stick to smaller forums.

Love the site, dislike the boards.

GameFAQs is pretty much the only online source I go to for help on games when I absolutely need it. The boards I only check out of curiousity, but I never find anything that incredibly insightful there. The real help is in the FAQs and maps themselves...I don't have much to complain about it.

And this is the only message board I go to at all nowadays, period. :!:

I go there for anything to do with cheats, walkthroughs, and occasionally for some gaming information. The only time I ever looked into their forums was when I was (viciously) hunting the Cubivore music. I think I found a thread that helped me, I can't remember. I'm not a member there, though.
