I was looking around Current Events Board, when I saw a topic about how GameFAQs Message Boards suck. Now I'm not denying that the boards are full of trolls/idiots/etc,
but is it really that bad? Someone said that the Gfaqs message boards are the waste of the internet forums, possibly the whole internet(wrong). I seem to find this general feeling on all the forums I've been on.
EDIT: Everything but the forums are pretty good. Forgot to mention that.

I use gamefaqs as a database. It had good info on years published, etc. And it has good screenshots. Once in a very very very blue moon, I might look at a FAQ for something. But I never ever bother going into the forums. They're terrible. And most of them are just a single locked thread with somebody saying "my forum." Wow. Awesome.
i usually use it for the guides, and not too often consult the board. extreme fanboys and trolls abound majority of the time. It just feels like young kids posting "should i get this game?", or "will i like this game??" Then there there is the uber elite poster that has gotten every trophy/acheivement 100% completion in half a day and brags how the game was soooo easy and flames anyone who posts asking for help as if they are such the inferior gamer to their superior god like gaming skills. If i want to hear 8 year olds talk, i'll just pop in at my mom's daycare.
I use GameFAQs as a database and a way to find general opinions on games (user reviews). The guides can be very helpful also. The forums are mostly pretty bad, but on occasion you can find some decent threads under some of the more obscure boards.
Yeah, gamefaqs forums are the same as the Gamespot forums. I don't know if that's the reason why, but there's a lot of dumb kids with big mouths on those forums. Tons of playstation era people who know NOTHING about video games and small minds with big egos who can't wait to get a flame war started.
However, there are some exceptions. I used to frequent the Ninja Gaiden II boards for the Xbox 360. There were quite a few mature people there. They were helpful to others and could talk about the game without coming across as insane fanatical fanboys. In fact, one user named Reim created a bunch of awesome videos that I found quite helpful when playing the game

Seriously. Screw you Shao Kahn I'm gonna play Animal Crossing.
GameFAQs forums have nothing on the likes of 4chan, but they can be a silly waste of time. Popular games are the most discussed naturally, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to actively talk about older games. The walkthroughs can be found everywhere as it would be pointless for authors to limit themselves to just one site.
MobyGames is the true successor to GameFAQs, but since it depends on public contributions it's still far from perfect.
Yeah, like most "dead' boards like past gen consoles are free of trolls due not being enough people to "troll". But I do see where the disgust comes from.
What is MobyGames? Never heard of it....*goes off to google*
Ive been a member since 01, and will continue to go to my one board till it is closed. But yes, the community there can be very immature at times. I rarely go to the site any more, but back in 02/03 I was really active.
