Tibia's Custom PS1

Post by -Tibia- »

My favorite Playstation game, "The X-Files", doesn't work on my PS2. I decided that if I had to keep my PS1 to play it, I was going to make it pretty. I gave the console and a controller custom paint jobs, added some lighting, and did bullet shell buttons on the controller. I apologize for the bad pics. My camera is old.

The finished console in the dark, showing the EL panel under the X-Files cutout.

The sound-activated LEDs. They glow a bit while playing in the dark, but they aren't all that visible, really.
Image

Here's what it actually looks like. It's a flawless matte black finish, but I had to use the flash, and it picks up every speck of dust. I have over 60 hours in just sanding and repainting, so I KNOW it's flawless.

This is the matching controller. It's been painted with a matte finish, the buttons have all been repainted, and the LEDs changed to green. The right buttons are 9mm bullet shells, the exact type Mulder and Scully use. lol

I can't do video, but if you are interested, I've got links to more pics, and some worklogs.

No reason to stomp another's work.

That X is beautiful!
I like it , especially novel idea with the shell casings!

Okay, that's just badass. I see you have the Marine Corps logo on the inside, is there a story behind that?

Pretty cool idea with the casings as buttons. Too bad you couldn't get a hammer imprint in the primers with the shapes. Glowing top loos great too.

@ Dylan- Assistant Director Skinner is a big character in the game, and he's a Marine. He's also my favorite character, so I wanted to do something special to represent him.

@ Hobie Wan- I didn't even think of that. I've got some extra shells left over, and I think my dad has a metal stamping kit. I'll have to experiment with that. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I'm not an X Files fan myself but I can appreciate the time and effort you put into the console. It looks nice. I like the shell casing buttons too, very original and cool.
