Why do you love/hate Star Ocean?

I can't remember examples of the top of my head, and I can't site the titles of episodes, but parts of the story/plot from the first Star Ocean were pretty much taken straight out of Star Trek episodes. Only example I can remember off the top of my head is the talking gate that lets them travel to the past. "City on the Edge of Forever," I think is what that episode was called.

Yeah I haven't played much of the other games in the series, and I'm aware that they pretty much all work from this setup. It's a small nitpick anyhow, like I said.

Star Ocean The Last Hope actually does the best job of bringing the Sci Fi back into the game. Some of the planets you land on are your underdeveloped fantasy planets, while others are more high tech (you travel through a ship in one, and on a high tech planet in another). Plus, you get to actually use your ship.
