So what have you guys been watching lately?

Did I mention that Buffy is now on Logo? Cuz I watch it pretty much every day, though I have all 7 seasons on my Instant Queue on NetFlix.

Also, Degrassi: The Next Generation, cuz they're doing a six-week event called "The Boiling Point", where they air a new episode every weeknight (excluding Friday apparently, when they air encores, though they play encores at 9:30 that night, right after the episode premieres, and then again the next day before the new episode). It started with the 2-hour TV movie "The Heat is On".

Recently started watching the new Dr. Who series (the one that started with Christopher Ecclession(sic)), but I've only seen the first episode. Good.

Recently saw the last episode of the Series 2 of Beautiful People on Logo (it originally aired in its native Britain back in November), which consisted of six episodes (like Series 1). For those who don't know, it's inspired by Simon Doonan's biography of the same name. It's about a fictitious version of Simon as he talks about being a teenager in Reading, circa '97-'98. I'm not listing the differences between the real Simon Doonan and the fictional one.

Still trying to get through Season 2 of Star Trek: TOS. I've been shirking majorly. How major? In the past few months, I've probably seen only about 3-5 episodes.

And started watching old Voyager episodes on Spike TV (thanks, DirecTV DVR), though I originally was saving that until after I finished DS9, which in turn was gonna be after TNG, and so on.

Started watching Rules of Engagement, cuz it's on the same night as Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory (though it's moving to Thursday nights in the fall), and How I Met Your Mother (haven't seen the old episodes though).

Seriously wishing I could start watching my fave Japanese TV shows (Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, etc), but lately my computer sucks at encoding to DVD (it takes 30 minutes to encode 5 FUCKIN MINUTES WORTH OF FOOTAGE!). So I'm looking into trying to get some custom subs and DVD-R copies.

Oh, and I kinda got this need to watch The Tribe. And fantasizing about how to bring it Stateside properly. Air it on TeenNick and other Viacom networks (MTV, e.g.), release the DVDs through either FUNimation or some other company, and... film/TV series set in the Tribe universe but set in America.

The Wire was the best TV drama ever made, hands down. Best. Show. Ever.

Since Treme is another David Simon show, I was quite intrigued to see what he'd do with it, especially since it moves away from the crime angle that he does so well.

This week I've watched the first half of the first season (there are only 10 episodes total so far and season 2 starts in the Spring). The show does not disappoint. Perfect pacing, great dialogue, and excellent writing. It's too early to say that it will be as good as The Wire was, but the key ingredients seem to be there.

I know the "It's not TV, it's HBO" ad was a cheesy slogan, but when I look back at the TV I've enjoyed the most in the past decade, HBO shows are heads and shoulders above the rest of network or cable TV:

Drama:
The Wire
The Sopranos
Deadwood
Oz

Comedy:
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Miniseries:
Generation Kill
Band of Brothers
John Adams
The Pacific
The Corner

These shows are all better than pretty much anything else out there in those categories over the past 10 years. In fact, the only non-HBO show I think I'd put into my top 5-10 from the 2000s would be Arrested Development.
Treme is great. Most of my family is from New Orleans and while they embellish the music a little bit overall it is a very accurate portrayal. The show isn't big on excitement but it is definitely worth a viewing. Admittedly I never could get into "The Wire" though. However, I agree about Sopranos.

The theme song for Treme really gets stuck in my head.

hell yeah you should, boomerang is awesome.it's only problem is that it's still missing some action shows of my past....like thundercats! and pirates of dark water...oh and GI-JOE doesn't show anymore. Don't be ashamed of watching cartoons. No matter what people say, cartoons are not just a kid thing. everyone should enjoy cartoons. often people forget as well that cartoons are created by adults. ^^
Oooh, it's not boomerang that I'm ashamed about! It's DEGRASSI! I swear I hate everything about this show but I've been watching it, dunno why.
well that i can't attest for. but to each his own i guess.

When I lived in New Orleans I lived in Treme before moving to the Marigny. Never seen the show though.

I've been catching Buffy on Logo too. I had never even heard of that channel before they start showing Buffy on it as I'm not part of its target audience. I wish they would show Angel episodes too, but that doesn't seem to fit its target audience like Buffy does with the Willow/Tara thing. They had a great marathon a while back with Buffy classics like Hush and Once More with Feeling airing back to back

Doctor Who has been awesome since the reboot though it took me awhile to get into it. You should check out Torchwood too, which I hated at first but it got really good in its second season and really peaked with the Children of Earth mini-series which was some of the best Sci Fi television I've ever seen in my life

I finished up the first season of Treme today and would recommend it to fans of Simon's other work and/or fans of good music (even if you don't know much about NO Jazz, you'll probably come to love it if you watch this show). For those of you looking for excitement and intrigue, though, there's not much here. It's a slow burner throughout, and skips on the melodrama in favor of more realistic denouements in its various plots.

I've been told I should watch Breaking Bad and maybe Mad Men, so I'll look into those next.

Mad Men and True Blood. I CONSTANTLY keep hearing people rave about those two shows and supposedly True Blood is much better than that for teenage girls garbage that is the Twilight movies

I saw about 5 minutes of true blood and it just seems like twilight for people who are too embarassed to admit they like twilight. If you don't have the budget to show someone transforming into a wolf then don't show someone transforming into a wolf!
