I'd only date a Polar Bear if she asked me first.

Re: Would you date a bi-polar person?
I'm not really sure how this turned into a personal discussion about your relationship. I wasn't claiming to know the specifics of the situation. I was simply making the point that a question like "Would you date a bi-polar person?" came off as a little small minded to me. Maybe your ex had other issues as well or maybe she was just a mean spirited person or maybe she just didn't love you. I don't know, but the point is that you shouldn't just assume that because she is bipolar that means you should generalize about the worthiness of every bipolar person.
I don't think I ever tried to make the "love conquers all" argument either. I was simply saying that if you really love someone in such a way that they are more important to you than anything else then you won't just give up. It doesn't mean you can make someone stay with you or make a relationship work but it means you will do damn near anything to try. Hanging up the towel and calling it a day just won't be an option.
I wasn't making presumptions about his love for her either, I said that either he loved her enough to deal with it or he didn't. Either way it has no bearing on putting a label on every other bipolar person as being not date worthy. You might as well say you had an ethnic G/F before and you didn't like the way it worked out so you won't date ethnic people any more. Every person with bipolar disorder is not the same.
You are claiming to know the extent of how much every person on the planet is capable of love. You are saying that it is impossible for one person to love another so much that there is nothing that can kill that love. You can't know that.

Re: Would you date a bi-polar person?
I'm off the market, so it doesn't really matter, but if I were still playing the field then I wouldn't rule someone out based on bipolar disorder alone. But you can ask lots of questions like this-- would you date a person with bad breath? Would you date a person that is obsessed with the Backstreet Boys? Would you date a person that thinks Bill O'Reilly is fair and balanced news? Would you date a person with an ugly haircut?
None of these things really comprise a whole person. No one of these attributes is enough to rule out dating on its own. If a person was all of those things, I would probably say no though.

No, I made this out of anger, this is a stupid question. I practically made this without thinking and just typed away. Sorry about this.

The fact the dude was willing to apologize and admit a mistake puts him leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the internet community.
Re: Would you date a bi-polar person?
I'll pass... i know a least 1 person who was bipolar and then she thought she didnt need to take her meds anymore... needless to say shit hit the fan.... and being bipolar everything she did and was doing didnt make any sense. If she is very good at taking her meds she is fine, but... ill still pass.
Re: Would you date a bi-polar person?
I was going to post something like this. It's ok to stay with someone and help them out. But if they just avoid the problem, avoid the meds, avoid the help then thats a no. Besides you have to see what level of bipolar she has. I mean some people are so wild in their up state that you couldn't handle it alone.env963 wrote:I'll pass... i know a least 1 person who was bipolar and then she thought she didnt need to take her meds anymore... needless to say shit hit the fan.... and being bipolar everything she did and was doing didnt make any sense. Thanks everyone...
