yeah, actually it was freezing up and stuttering for a while afterwards, so I had to turn it off and let it cool for a few minutes...
A CPU 6 player Guardian Heroes match in the forest stage where every character was Nicole really pissed off my Saturn. It was very warm to the touch and the game suffered from extreme slowdown. I don't think I'll do that again.

Its so strange in a way to be talking about a system from the 90's being built like a brick out-house with the current super delicate systems of today.

I was in a gamestop today buying my buddy a gift and I told the clerk i was hunting for a Sega Saturn and he looked at me like i just told him i was from Mars.

He was arguing with another guy in the store about WoW and i had an old man moment.

I was thinking "These damn kids"

That's funny i've done the same thing recently and I got the dreaded eternal doom stare. Like "...Sega Saturn..wtf?" And at the same time they were talking about WoW...and exactly i said to myself "these damn kids." Weird.

I always thought this was a great aspect of the Saturn. The PS1 apparently had some pretty common overheating issues, and you could always hear the disc spinning, even during gameplay.
From what I recall, a lot, A LOT, of the PS1 games used data-streaming (something like that terminology) to keep loading times down. That's probably why you heard it all the time. Cuz I don't remember my PS1 being loud or anything compared to the DC or anything after it.

It is a really quiet console. Nobody seems to know what a Saturn is. Most peoples knowledge of Sega hardware starts with the Genesis and skips to the Dreamcast.

why wouldn't it be? this is obviously the most important thread in the forum.

for the record, that promo video must have been before sega switched to the "head for saturn" artsy-fartsy ad campaign they had. it bears a lot more resemblance to the "sega scream" type stuff they were pushing with the genesis, which actually did work. if only...

I actually know a person who thinks that game consoles started with the PS1. When I asked them about the Dreamcast, Saturn, hell, even the Genesis ans SNES, they looked at me like they were a deer in the headlights. At one point, they even attempted to deny their existence!
