I now know your pain...

Post by rainnyx4 »

I had always been able to avoid the "my parents threw out something valuable" scenario until now.

I recently arrived back in the U.S. from Japan to see my sister's wedding. While I was in Japan, I would order things to my house, and then have my parents ship them to me to avoid the ridiculous shipping costs.

One order that I placed consisted of only disc-based media (3 blu-rays, 3 cds, 1 ps3 game, and 1 wii game). To save on shipping costs, I told my parents that I didn't need the cases and to just send me the discs. For some reason, they assumed that I didn't want the casing at all and proceeded to throw everything else out! It's amazing to think that they didn't know I would want this stuff when they look at my room!

So now I'm left with 8 essentially new discs with no casing or inserts! The OCD nerd in me is seriously considering just going and buying these things over again and getting what I can for the loose stuff.

I feel bad for you, but I think that was mostly your fault. If I said that to my parents I would specify to keep the boxes. Especially since you said that you only wanted the discs.

You should have had the sleeves sent out too. Wouldn't have cost much more for the paper. Bad luck dude.

On a slightly related note, I can't help but notice you're in Sapporo. I freaking loved that town. I visited it a couple of times when I was in the Navy. The amount of money I spent at the beer gardens on each trip was freaking epic. I envy you geographically.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

You see lots of ebay auctions that include just the game case, artwork and instructions. I've been able complete at least 5 games this way. Beats buying it over again thats sure, hope this helps.

I often use this method, especially for Nintendo Ds games that I find used, for some reason people feel like throwing out the plastic cases??? Ebay works wonders on boxing games!

Wow, actually this helps a lot! I hadn't thought of this. It looks like I'll be able to recomplete the two games (House of the Dead Overkill and Resident Evil 5). But the Blu-rays and cds are a no-go still.

Also try http://www.videogameinstructionbooklets.com. It's a barebones site that might make you think twice but I'll vouch for it. I've completed over 10 games for various systems with them. They'll combine your shipping, something that might be hard to do if you complete your games through auctions. Just make sure to tell them you don't want Greatest Hits or Players Choice versions of whatever boxart you might buy.

The only gripe I have with them is that they only carry items for this generation and the last generation, though they claim to start stocking retro products soon.

Glad to have helped!

I'd wait on replacing the bluray cases if you can. Movies always go down in price eventually. What you paid $20 for this year will be $5 in the bargain bin in a year or two.
