Also, get yourself a real Genesis and you'll hear the difference. Early Model 1 consoles sound amazing while later Model 1's and most Model 2's until 1995 were crap thanks to a manufacturing defect in the audio circuit.

Thanks for the info. I had never seen one of those Mitsumi modules before.

Went over to Sega 16 via other post here and now I can look through my box Gennies for a "good" one...can't wait to run it through my <grin> Hi-Fi system </grin>

Besides Sonic and Streets of Rage what are your favorite Genesis games as far as music\sound?

Actually.....

This sounds amazing. Not exactly true to the Genny's specs at all times, but close:

This man on the other hand knows how to create amazing stuff generated completely within the actual realistic sound limitations of the Genesis:

Super Metroid:

Axelay:

MegaMan X3 Intro Stage:

MegaManX3 Blast Hornet:

MegaManX3 Toxic Seahorse:

Sonic Advance 2:

Sonic 4:

The guy also did a ton of the music for Streets of Rage Remake too.

EDIT!: Also, this original track from another guy is amazing:
I have to say this is awesome sound for the Megadrive as most original games for the system never sounded anywhere near as good.

However I still prefer the original music compared to the these but hats off to the conversion I'm very impressed

The Genesis could produce some great music, but the one thing that held it back was its inability to do deep bass sounds. Or at least, do them very well. It would be hard to replicate Donkey Kong Country's soundtrack on the Genesis, because it uses a lot of bass.

Are you talking to me? If so, then that's a bit of an odd video to respond with; it has no deep bass sounds at all.

I guess I never paid that much attention, but the dk music does have deeper bass than any of those examples. Of course the DK games pretty much pushed the system to the limits.

Ok, you seem to be looking for ambient and constant bass. The way you both sounded you wanted thumping deep bass.

Still though, I don't understand how audio hardware can make a difference between bass levels.

Ambience wise Ristar, Sonic 3D blast, SOR and the Shinobi series are shining examples of this:

Ristar:

Sonic 3D Blast:

SOR:

Shinobi:
