Help Update the Round-Up of Current NES Clones

Post by racketboy »

So it’s been three years since I did the first round-up of NES clones and compared them to the original NES models.

I’m looking to the community to help round out the list more (I’ve got a starting list below) So please list off any names/titles of clones systems that you know of that support NES cartridges and if you know of any reviews and/or lists of strengths and weaknesses of the particular models, that would be wonderful.

Here’s the list of clones I’ve rounded up today – does anyone have any others to add and have any comments about the advantages/disadvantages of each?

I haven't had many experiences with clones, Except The fc twin, THE fc mobile, and the retro duo.

The retro duo is a very good nes and snes clone. It doesn't have many Nes compatibility problems, only about 5 games can't be played. It uses a snes controller slot, so you have to us a snes controller for playing, unless you get an adapter. There is a light gun that can be used. Getting the games into the nes slot isn't hard, however taking them out can sometimes be hard, and if you're not careful can bend the pins. Snes and super famicom games can be played. Accessories such as Game genie can be used. It has notable compatibility problems for pal snes games however The NTSC games don't have these problems. I had some problems with the retro duo, the first one I got didn't work properly(had video problems) but I got it when it was still early in release. The more recent ones don't seem to have quality problems.

It has a few problems however is a very solid clone.

I know it isn't a new addition, but you could add an advantage to the Gen Nex (and possibly others) that it will play PAL carts as well. At least my PAL Over Horizon plays great in my NEX, just a little off color.

I have the FC Mobile II and FC 16 Go heres my opinion on them.

FC Mobile II- is a great unit. I played about 40 different games on it including Castlevania 3 and didn't have one compatibility issue. The wireless controllers and zapper are a little cheap feeling but work very well. The console itself felt somewhat cheap as well but I've owned it for almost a year now with no issues. I love the TV out and the wireless controllers and zapper. The LCD screen is okay but a little small.

Yobo FC 16 Go- I love this thing, to be able to play my SNES games on the go is awesome. Again like the FC Mobile II it feels a little cheap but I've owned it for almost a year with no issues. The rechargeable battery is nice, the LCD screen is larger, and the TV out is great as well. The wireless controllers work well and seem well built for Chinese knockoff stuff. Again I've played about 40 games including Star Fox and Yoshi's Island with no issues. For the price, both of these clones offer a lot for the price and are well worth it.
