Many of my favorites probably couldn't stand on their own as music albums, but they fit the games well, IMO.

Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact Giant Attack

Probably the most underrated soundtrack of all time.. Sure it wasn't the best street fighter game and 3rd Strike was much better but this soundtrack was amazing... Great DNB mix... Best songs were the Alex, Necro, Ryu/Ken, Elena and Dudley stages..

Those are the soundtracks I'm willing to buy right now if I see them.

OutRun 2006) Every single track is worth it. The music alone is reason to buy the game.

Pokémon Battle Revolution) The music captures the Pokémon theme while raising the bar and keeping it very entertaining outside the game. The tracks are energetic and keep their intensity through the whole playtime. This is the kind of music that makes you walk faster and faster while you spin in your hands an imaginary pokéball.

Railroad Tycoon 3) The soundtrack is nothing special, it's just incredibly good at doing what it does. The song choices completely reflect the spirit of the railroad and the quality of the recordings is superb. There's not much to say other than it's very good.

I could probably come up with a ton, but here's some that popped into my head.

1.The original Streets of Rage(The boss theme and boat level track are awesome)
2 Castlevania:Symphony of the Night(The whole soundtrack is an orgasm for the ears)
3.Starfox(I like its militaristic and epic feel)
4.Megaman X series(there are lots of tracks I like, the boss theme from Megaman X3, most of Zero's themes, intro stage music for MMX 2, the spider boss theme from MMX 1, and the list goes on and on)
5.Tomb Raider Legend - The track that plays at the title screen alone is beautiful, epic and memorable. Here it is:

6.Einhander - Awesome, awesome soundtrack. I swear some of the best music out there comes from 2-d shooters
7.Final Fantasy Tactics(and quite a few other FF titles as well)
8.Sonic and Knuckles
9.Zone of the Enders 2(Seriously one of the best goddamn action games ever, with an awesome soundtrack to boot)
10.Rez(Like you could even HAVE a discussion like this without Rez being mentioned)
11.The Red Star
12. Okami - The combat theme and boss tracks are fantastic
13.Tenchu Stealth Assassins
14.Radiant F***ing Silvergun!
15.Ninja Gaiden II(NES)-Absolutely LOVE the track for Act 3-2
16.Megaman 2
17.Castle Crashers - Especially these these:





Castle Crashers seriously has one of the best beat'em up soundtracks I've ever heard

I think I'm going to have to add Tekken 2 and 3 into the mix... Very underrated badass soundtracks... The Nina themes in particular!
