Sega Nomad Screen Replacement?

Post by softwhere »

I just got my nomad in the mail today with a sun spot on the screen, still works and looks great though. So I know I have seen people doing screen replacements on these, does anyone on here do them? i'll buy the parts and pay for the labor obviously :]

or

is it hard to do it yourself? also, are any of those old power packs still holding a charge?

I also got no reply from hailrazer a couple of months ago and again a couple of weeks ago. I'll be buying the parts and giving it a shot myself shortly. If it's as easy as he says I might be willing to do it for other people (for cost of pats and shipping both ways) if it's not too difficult and I'm satisfied it wouldn't damage their hardware. I'll be posting to that thread about my success or problems.

One of my biggest issues with Hailraizer's mod was the fact that it uses Composite instead of RGB. When I'm going to be holding the screen close to my face and staring at it for an extended period I'm not going to be able to take it if I continuously see rainbowing or the picture is the least bit soft and muddy.

At $65 shipped for the modding service he was offering I at least expect an RGB signal. After all at GS that's practically my whole paycheck!

Nothing personal against Hailraizer though, I'm just ranting because of my absolute hate of composite.

On a 3.5" screen you will see no advantage with rgb over composite. You would have to have Eagle eyes to notice it. The picture wont be soft /muddy or have rainbowing. If you could play the regular Nomad screen for more than 10 minutes without going blind then this mod will blow your mind.

And no it's not an easy mod. It's difficult to get the screen in perfectly straight and with no dust. And one misplaced wire and the screen is fried.

Also I was barely making any money on the mod. I did around 20 of them before I realized it just wasn't worth it for how much I was making.

I know it's all in jest, nothing meant seriously aside from my sheer hate of Composite.

I'm still trying to free up some cash so have you stopped doing the mod or raised the price for this service?
