The gamer in me hates the collector in me right now.

My copy of Deathsmiles came in today. I want to open and play but I tend to collect more than play so it will be staying in its shrink wrap........but its so tempting it looks like a lot of fun.

Just open and enjoy it man. Its a great game and you're just cheating yourself out of a terrific gaming experience. Every game I've ever left wrapped I regretted doing so. They just always lose value and you never get to enjoy it. I can't think of any game I have that has increased significantly in value due to me keeping it sealed. Well I won't lie some have increased, but not enough to prevent me from enjoying it. Games are just not as collectible as they once were.

Don't forget why you got into this little hobby of collecting video games in the first place.. Would you buy a brand-new car, build a brand new garage, and have it helicoptered into said garage just because you're afraid of off-the-lot depreciation..?

Just play it - because if you don't, you're doing the gamer in you a grave disservice.

This is very true.

Games whose sealed copies sell for ungodly premiums (like Chrono Trigger) command those prices because scarcely anybody thought to keep games sealed back then. These days, it seems every time a "limited edition" comes out, everyone thinks it's a great idea to hoard sealed copies of the game.

Just crack the game open and have fun with it, man.

If you ever get a game that you know thats going to be worth something in the future like a limited edition copy...JUST PIRATE IT.I know it may sound bad but you already have the copy it wont hurt seeing that you already bought the game.

If its on xbox jtag it so you can play or hell do it on your pc.

I did this with my limited edition games.

Deathsmiles is a pretty rare case, though. I had heard that only 15,000 copies were produced (not sure how reliable that is) - and regardless, it is the first time a Cave console game has ever been distributed in the US.

Video Game collecting isn't as lucrative as it once was, but that doesn't mean it's pointless. The Mega Black Label version of Deathsmiles, for instance, only had 150 copies produced. Tell me that doesn't seem like a gold mine.

I'd say the best bet when it comes to game collection are press editions. That's where the real money is. See how much a press edition of Uncharted II or God of War III goes for online. I'll wait.

I got a sealed GCN copy of Phantasy Star Online I & II this week. I opened it within the hours. AND I PLAYED IT.

You lost hypothetical millions opening that game.
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.
