Is there a black colored backlit gameboy SP??

Someone is selling two gameboy advance sp's on craigslist one black and one graphite. So I e-mailed him asking if they are back lit models. He said yes, both are, but as far as I could research online only the graphite color was mentioned as being backlit not the black... Can anyone verify if there is a black gameboy sp that is blacklit?

Some are back, some are front.

They all light up, but some of the screens have much higher brightness levels than others. The ones that are the brightest (and whose screens appear the darkest, tinted almost black, when not lit up, as opposed to gray for the other, lower brightness gba sp's) are the Bright Pearl Blue, Bright Graphite, and the Bright Pearl Pink models.

Well the early ones up until around the time before the Game Boy Micro and DS came out (Launch to maybe 2005?) were actually front lit. The ones made after the DS and GameBoy Micro came out were changed to use the DS style backlit screen.

I used to have a front lit model (before it got lost/stolen) and while it was miles above the original GBA, compared to the backlit model that came out later, its total garbage. If you don't care much about color, get the backlit one.

Hmm its not on there...I just asked him to verify they both have the AGS-101 model number.

I'm guessing that the seller doesn't really appreciate the difference between a backlit and front-lit screen and just assumed that, if the screen lit up, it was backlit.

The frontlight does have an advantage, though; you can easily remove it and add it to a Game Boy Color to have a brightly lit GBC.

I sold my broken front-lit GBA SP to someone who is using the light for his Neo Geo Pocket Color Handheld.
