Even the fanmade Sonic Megamix is better than any new Sonic recently released.Droid party wrote:Besides, we all know that if the new Sonic game is successful the only thing it will breed is more Sonic games and nothing else.Gamerforlife wrote:So cynical, I'm going to laugh at you guys when Sega puts out an awesome SOR4 for PSN and Xbox Live Arcade after seeing how successful the new 2-d Sonic game is

Ok, just played the demo and I gotta say as an avid sor fan growing up that I'm impressed that this is a fan game. The hi res sprites and backgrounds are very pretty and it plays just as it should. Very much worth checking out.

But yeah, this looks more like a SoR2 HD or something to that effect.

After playing the demo through, I have to say this could turn out awesome, its so weird not being able to jump over while holding or do a back attack.
Looking forward to more.

this plays pretty nice, definitely looking forward to the final product. i'm glad to see Max is back, he's my favourite. ("ohh-eH-AHHH!!" -dropkick)
I'd kill to be able to play this on a Saturn. how impossible would that be, exactly?

From all accounts I've heard, the new Splatterhouse is about as worthy a successor to the original Trilogy as Will Smith's "I, Robot" was to Asimov's.AppleQueso wrote: Yeah man I guess you're right, a SoR4 is about as likely as a new Splatterhouse. Oh wait...
My guess is that, if there were a fan game being made called Splatterhouse that was similar to this one, people would consider the fan game "The Real Splatterhouse" and try to forget all about the official one.
Also, Namco owns Splatterhouse. As much as Namco has been getting pretty damn rusty, they at least try to cater to their older fans with games like Klonoa and that new Time Crisis coming up. When was the last time Sega showed the same effort? Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection? Golden Axe: Beast Rider?

Re: Streets of Rage 4 HD - Demo is out!
for those interested, this is how SOR4 is suppose to look like years ago on Dreamcast:

Streets of Rage 4 - 1999 Dreamcast Prototype

Streets of Rage 4 - 1999 Dreamcast Prototype
...However, executives from Sega of America, unaware of the series' history and fanbase, shot the idea down on the basis of its genre alone. The side-scrolling beat'em up had rapidly gone out of fashion in the mid-1990s, and attempts to bring the genre into 3D (such as Fighting Force) had been unsuccessful. This meant that Sega were unwilling to commit to a game that in their eyes had little chance of making a good financial return (despite the fact that a Streets of Rage sequel would pretty much sell itself). Sega decided that this game was a bad idea. The development was cancelled, and Streets of Rage 4 entered a long limbo period, becoming nothing more than a dream for the millions of fans who wanted to see the franchise continued.

My ultimate point is that we've been surprised before. I wouldn't put anything into the realm of impossibility, especially considering how "in" it seems to be nowadays to resurrect old franchises.the7k wrote:From all accounts I've heard, the new Splatterhouse is about as worthy a successor to the original Trilogy as Will Smith's "I, Robot" was to Asimov's.AppleQueso wrote: Yeah man I guess you're right, a SoR4 is about as likely as a new Splatterhouse. SoA is the same company that thought the 32x and the surprise launch of the Saturn were good ideas, so I can't say I'm surprised.sevin0seven wrote:SoR4 Dreamcast stuff

True, it's not impossible. Regardless, you don't bet on a sick dog.AppleQueso wrote: My ultimate point is that we've been surprised before. I wouldn't put anything into the realm of impossibility, especially considering how "in" it seems to be nowadays to resurrect old franchises.
With Sega's hand as far from the pulse of the gaming community as it possibly can be and the economy being in the shitter, I don't see Sega considering the idea of a Streets of Rage 4 for quite some time.
And again, if they do consider it, it'll likely get the Golden Axe: Beast Rider treatment: hoisted onto a crappy, cheapo developer so that they can churn out a risky game with minimum investment. Then, when the sales are abismal, they will have lost a minimal amount of money AND they'll be able to say "See? We told you a new Streets of Rage would sell badly!". A Win-Win for Sega, really.
