Picked up Final Fantasy VII and IX for a total of $10. Lady posted it on craigslist with a picture. The title said Final Fantasy XII, but the picture was of VII. Oh and both were the original black versions. Im thinking of selling my other copy that is greatest hits VII on ebay.

About a month ago, I started working at a local game store. I kept hearing awesome stories about people leaving bins of rare stuff behind without selling it to the store, meaning it's free for the employees to ravage. I wasn't really ever expecting anything cool like that to happen to me, but yesterday, it kinda did.

A guy came in near the end of my shift with a dusty cardboard box. My co-workers left me to deal with it (nobody likes doing buy-ins, they take forever and rarely involve anything cool), so I took a look at what he had.

In the box, there was an NES, two controllers, a zapper, and a handful of games. Pretty unimpressive stuff at first glance, but then I looked at the games. He had a few crappy sports games, but most of the games were great ones. He had Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Metroid, R.C. Pro Am, The Legend of Zelda (gold cart), Rampage, Tetris, and Marble Madness, all in the old black Nintendo sleeves, some with instruction manuals, and all in really good condition. He also had a Nintendo Strategy Guide with maps and guides for most of Nintendo's big titles at the time.

I checked everything out and gave him his total, which was $20 or so in cash. He said he was just cleaning his stuff out and didn't really want credit for it. I told him that there were a few games I really liked (mostly Metroid) that I would be willing to make a side deal for. Against store policy, yes, but all the managers say it's okay as long as we're smart about it.

Well, instead of striking a deal with this guy, he just told me to take what I wanted. He was just going to take it all to Goodwill had we not given him money for it, so he didn't really care too much either way. I knocked the titles and the guide I listed earlier off the ticket, leaving everything else (the sports games and the hardware). I could have used an actual NES (getting by with an FC Twin right now), but I didn't want to get greedy because I was really thankful for the free games. After taking them all out, he was still walking away with $14 and I was walking away with probably $50+ worth of games according to our store's prices. Very cool day indeed.

Today wasn't quite as epic as far as finds go, but I did pick up F-Zero X and Jet Force Gemini for $3 each thanks to some price drops (and after my employee discount, I only paid a little over $4 for the two of them). The Power Glove I bought from some guy for $3 (beating out the store's $1.75), however, made things quite a bit more interesting. There are no TV sensors to go with it (anyone know where I can find replacements?), but I was just too much of a nerd to pass it up.

tl;dr retro video game stores are awesome to work at

Went to a goodwill, back in the CD section and found a Pokemon Gold and Silver promo disc for the PC. Not sure of it's rarity, but it was in a plastic baggie so I went for it. Two bucks.

Anyone else see this before? I'm just looking through what's on the disc.
Collects promo gaming stuff, certain import games, hockey memorabilia, and other oddball things. (sig and avy under construction)

Just got a complete, mint, original Ape Escape for PS1... for $1.

Not the rarest game ever, but I was very pleased they only wanted $1 for it.

Thats an awesome find! I loved this game when it first came out, really showed off what dual analog could do when it was released. $1 is an awesome price.
