Minimum CPU required for Neo Geo emulation?

Post by daskrabs »

Does anyone know first-hand what the minimum CPU (either AMD or Intel) needed to play the entire Neo Geo rom set (i.e. any game) at full speed is? I assume that the larger games, for example Garou and Metal Slug 5, would be the best test cases?

I've gotten pretty much every NeoGeo and CPS2/3 game to run flawlessly on a 2.1ghz AMD processor using Kawaks.

Mame on the other hand is a very different story...

Tried it using Kawaks on a Celeron 2.1 which is rated around 1.66 and it worked fine. Mame was really slow with Garou.
Thanks everyone...

I can play 90% of the library on a 600 mhz athlon k6 running tinyxp and NeoRAGEx. I have never played Garou or Metal Slug 5 on it though. However I have played Couching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2003 (hack of one of the King of Fighters) on it - full speed.

I had it going on a Celeron 400 MHz with 384MB of RAM on Windows 2000 about a decade ago. Worked fine. I mostly played Windjammers and Metal Slug X on it then. No slowdown at all. I think I was using NeoRAGEX.

My 550mhz AMD ran NEO GEO RAGE EMU just fine.
That is till it died during a system BIOS update.
