Most popular tv shows have a greater place in the psyche of most people in this country than popular video games do. I'm pretty sure more people in America know about American Idol than they do Brain Age or even Halo
How does American Idol being more popular than Halo make gaming not mainstream?
You just mentioned a bunch of bands that people know of despite not knowing about individual members. How many actual game companies are known by most people beyond Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft? Since those companies that are making our games would be the equivalent of a band in music. I guarantee the average person can name a lot more bands than they can video game companies
How many people know about Major Movie Studios beyond Paramount and Columbia Picutres? How about Major Record Labels?

Finally, something we can all agree upon.

Yes, but the good sitcoms know that they should be crap, and either make the best out of a bad situation [Drew Carey Show], or turns it on its head and tries something different, which is usually good, but get canceled soon [Arrested Development].

The final argument that I have is that my own parents just bought a Wii. They are in their late 50s. They do not know who Lady GaGa is, but they play Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Bass Fishing, Madden (my Dad has my old PS2), Civilization and Bejeweled (on their PC). My own old ass parents (entirely independent of my influence mind you) are frequent gamers. Case closed.

I guess it would be case closed, if any of those were REAL games. Wii Fit? that's not a video game, it's a wanna be exercise machine. Bass fishing is what? Just a fishing simulator? Madden speaks more to how big football is in our culture than it does video games.

Case closed. Anyone else have any FINAL arguments?

Those are real games. Just not games you like apparently. There is a difference.

In other words, sitcoms suck, except for the ones that don't.

What the fuck is this babble? You're argument was that gaming wasn't mainstream, not non-Wii games. (I agree with you on Madden, though.)

Aw forget it, clearly there is opposition to my opinions on this and I don't want a thread that is just going to be all about arguing. That's never any fun. It's just one person's perspective after all. From my perspective, it still seems like gaming isn't being taken seriously as an entertainment medium yet, but clearly some of you see things differently

I'll just agree to disagree and move onto some more fun threads we've got going

What's Zelda, a grass cutting rupee finding simulator?
What's Guitar rock band hero, a color matching simulator?
What's Tetris, a warehouse packing simulator?
What's Bayonetta, a blue ball simulator?
What's Final Fantasy, an accountant simulator disguised as a movie?
What's Pokemon, a hoarding simulator?
What's Halo, a teabag simulator?

I mean you could go on and on. :)
