Anyways, back on topic.
This Mosque should be allowed. Religion should be able to be practiced freely.
I however don't believe in the holy magical talking snake...bullshit, or what any other religions back-story is. There is simply not enough time in life to devote ones time to thinking about this stuff. Live your life the way you know how to live it without having to look up or live up to someone or something. Be yourself.

Re: Mosques
Okay, I can't take it anymore. I'm coming back to posting in this thread. I just can't stand it when something like this is going on.Octopod wrote:And even if I did in fact hate christians or whatever religious person, rather than just the religion itself, it would still not be the same thing as racism.
You act like racism is the only prejudice possible, which is absolutely ridiculous. You are still hating a group of people for being who they are, that, for the most part, have nothing to do with the generalizations you have established in your own mind. Explain to me just how different racism and social prejudice are, would you?
Also, think about this for a while: You are fervently trying to defend something that you say you both hate and don't care about at the same time. Doesn't that seem a little odd when put into context?
The Dockers analogy is absurd; you are referring to an inanimate object, saying it has the same qualities as a group of people. Why didn't you just say: "I like pasta because my house is made of bricks!"? It would certainly make more sense.
Re: Mosques
Never once did I say that racism is the only prejudice possible. There is also things like sexism, homophobia and the like. You know, the stuff that is taught in the bible.lisalover1 wrote:Okay, I can't take it anymore. I'm coming back to posting in this thread. Please clarify because I have no idea what you are talking about.
The dockers analogy is absurd, that was the fucking point. So was the analogy that Limewater made. I made the same analogy which is just as valid as the one he made. His analogy could be applied to anything. Your argument here about the pasta house is not even worth addressing.lisalover1 wrote:The Dockers analogy is absurd; you are referring to an inanimate object, saying it has the same qualities as a group of people. Re: Mosques
Somehow, I expected you to resort to cheap shots.Never once did I say that racism is the only prejudice possible. There is also things like sexism, homophobia and the like. You know, the stuff that is taught in the bible.
Here you are:Please clarify because I have no idea what you are talking about.
I said I dislike christianity.
Before you come back and say "But I said I didn't care about the Mosque!", it was pretty clear in the rest of that post that the statement could be applied to your opinion of all of religion.I really do not give a shit about it.
Learn to read the whole post before you go off on your whiny rants. I said that you can't compare two completely unlike things. Re: Mosques
Oh yeah, how dare I resort so low as to mention the truth. What a cheap shot.
I said I did not give a shit what they build at ground 0. Quick taking my shit and selectively quoting a portion of my statement to suit your wishes. It should have been clear what I was saying but I guess it wasn't clear enough for you. Getting desperate aren't you.
Nothing you have posted here has any sort of validity at all so you have to start insulting me because you are mad. I'm done responding to you kid.

Re: Mosques
Pretty sure octopod hates what religion does to society. I don't see him saying he hates anyone who's religious.
I hate the act of people not using their turn signal, but I don't immediately hate all people who don't use their turn signal.
Racism is when you hate a group of people because of what they are. Like "I hate mexicans because they are inferior human beings and smell like tacos". That's racist. You hate a person for what they are. You can't separate a person from their geneology.
You can separate a person from the act of what they do and what they believe in though.

Re: Mosques
This is the last thing I have to say on this subject, I am damn tired of it.
If I hate these religions does that make me a bigot?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology
Or is it only if I hate YOUR religion?

Re: Mosques
Well, what do you know? It is true what they say; a wounded dog is violent and unpredictable. You have resort to the most stupid and topical argument possible; one which completely denies all context and logic, in a futile attempt to sound bold.Octopod wrote:Nothing you have posted here has any sort of validity at all so you have to start insulting me because you are mad.
Re: Mosques
Please stop with the "stupid," "dumb," etc. comments. This thread was and could still be a worthwhile discussion of religion, prejudice, and so on...but the name-calling is dragging it down considerably. I'd rather not lock it, so consider this the warning.
Re: Mosques
He doesn't give a shit that people follow or practice it. I hate world of warcraft, and yet I don't give a shit that people play it.lisalover1 wrote:Somehow, I expected you to resort to cheap shots.Never once did I say that racism is the only prejudice possible. But he's not comparing an inanimate object to a whole group of people, he was comparing and inanimate object to and inanimate concept. Nowhere does he say he hates people who believe in christianity, he simply hates the religion and what it does and stands for.lisalover1 wrote: Learn to read the whole post before you go off on your whiny rants.
